How do you decide which form of communication to use?

There are many ways to contact others. Some prefer the call, others texts, and others email. Still there are many different ways to reach people around the globe. What's your most used way to communicate and which do you prefer? Do you ever hate a certain type of way to be contacted?

I hate phone calls,they make me feel so awkward.
I'm fine with face to face though.

i prefer to write letters, but since that takes a while to reach people, my first option is always email. unlike text, it doesn't have a character limit. and it's better than a call because i can think about what i'm going to say.

I feel like texting and chatting online are kind of fun. It can be bad in some ways because there's this buffer between you and the words and you don't get to see the other person's inflections and gestures, but it leaves time to reply whenever it's convenient and there's no real pressure. I like phone calls for touching base whenever I'm about to meet somebody, but I haven't really had a conversation on the phone that's gone longer than a few minutes in a long time.

Which ever one is easiest to type.

My most used way is by calling. I don't hate a certain type but I get annoyed when people text long conversations. I do wish though that you could just show up at someone's house like they do in movies and small towns.

In the end, all I communicate comes from thought.

I prefer face to face and texting. I hate phone calls and will avoid them at all costs.

I like face to face. If it's one of my friends or my dad telling me something quick, I prefer to be texted rather than be called (mostly because I hate awkward silences on the phone).

I'm a fan of snail mail. something about taking the time to go through the process (which, all on its own isn't really a long process, but when compared to the convenience of calling or texting is stone age technology) it shows the person you're contacting that you genuinely value what you have to say. plus, you can get creative. you can send them a letter, a drawing, a gift, a picture, anything to bring you closer to the person you're contacting. now, that's not to say I never call or text, but i PREFER old fashioned mail, but as far as what i use most, texting is my secret shame

I have a really old phone and texting is very slow. I'm not a big fan of texting but I think it's a generational thing.

I prefer face to face communication whenever possible. but in the abscence of that, some kind of written communication or the phone. both of which I can choose to ignore or hang up. depends on who I want to communicate with as well as who wants to communicate with me.
I do not text..nor accept texts. for one thing, I can't operate or see all those little buttons on the phone.

I'm mostly a texter,,,,,but I agree,,,depends on the person I'm communicating with,,,,of course I would rather face to face,,,but it doesn't always work out that easily....If not for texting I would still have long lost cousins,,,but now that we exchanged numbers,,,we keep in touch with texting quite frequently. :)

At work we are constantly using both emails and phone - with very occasional text.

I try to use the medium appropriate to the information I need to communicate. I feel some things should never be shared by email or a text. That being said I have a couple family members who have decided they will post everything on facebook (even important stuff) and if I don't go to their page I will just miss a surgery or other big activity in their (or their kids) life... I find this so annoying!
So I guess others dictate how I communicate sometimes... and how I'm communicated to often.
