I'm an LA-based writer. I write poetry and short fiction for Housefire and Metazen. I write comedy articles for Funny not Slutty and Comedy Rants. I also write screenplays, which I realize really makes me stand out from everybody else in LA. The only music I can listen to while working is the album Some Girls by the Rolling Stones. I learned this when I was 14, and I don't want to mess with a good thing.
Earlier today I purchased soup from my work's cafeteria. I picked up a soup spoon and grinned. I love soup spoons.
Here are a few other simple pleasures that make me smile:
- Sporks.
- Cherry slurpee from 7-11 (or a Cherry Icee from anywhere).
- Lattes.
- Solving a crossword puzzle.
- Tomatoes + Basil fresh from the garden.
- Spontaneous, unsolicited expressions of love.
- Fresh baked bread.
- Farmer's Markets.
- Cool, foggy mornings.
-Dogs
Paula Cannoli is my nom de pen. Amelia Blanquera is the real one. For all of you aspiring writers, I'm proof that you can jump from the Collective, to the Brainlab, and now column, "Almost, Not Quite Right." My advice? Just show up, every day or whenever you can. Inspiration might not come right away. Wait for it. In the meantime, have a look around SP.
