good question. i always think it is something you love to do but that really interests you. something you want to be an absolute expert in and always learn more about.

i am a teacher and i use to consider that my passion but lately i am not as into it as i was. i'm not sure if that's just a temporary thing, but it has me asking myself what else i am interested it. because i really think a person's career should be in something they are passionate about. otherwise it's just too hard to get out of bed in the morning!!

I remember studying epitaphs in Latin, and a common phrase during that time was "he lived with passion." It has always stuck with me as something important in life. How can we say we've lived if we've never appreciated what life has to offer? I think @freckles said it perfectly. It's different for everyone. Find what inspires you :)

From a theory of motivation (self-determination) definition, passion is what compels me to do what I do, without any reward or compensation, other than the pleasure of doing it. With passion, I am able and willing to do something for free. More than intrinsically motivated, I feel I am manifesting a part of who I am when I do what I am passionate about.

It may take many years to develop or discover passion.

I'm with you on this one. I LOVE my kids, my husband, family, friends, music, books (and i never seem to have enough time for it all) etc and while I admit that I don't really love my job all the time (scientist) there just isn't anything outside of the people that I love that I am 'passionate' about. While I sometimes envy people that seem to have so much 'passion' for something, I also don't think that it's necessarily a negative thing to not have something like that i.e. it doesn't mean that your life is less full, happy or worthy. If you aren't happy in your life take steps to change it. But if you are then don't worry about the conceived notions that others have on how it should or shouldn't be.

I think passion is a sense of deep emotion...not necessarily love.

If I'm playing Civilization 5, and George Washington won't let me have open boarders with his capitol, I will most likely scream and curse at my computer (which is probably a very funny sight by the way). I would say this is a very passionate response.
I also think passion could me undying love/interest. I'm very passionate about comedy.

Passion is the thing that makes your heart sing; it doesn't matter if it's looking at art, rolling around on the sand, standing up for what you believe in, sticking your toes in the water or your tongue into a spoonful of melted chocolate... passion is felt in the physical body as well as in the heart center; it's that activity in which the simple act of doing becomes more than the basic task... it resonates all through your body and you feel as though you might die happy the next instant because of what you were just doing.

At least, that's what it is to me. :-) I have many passions.

Being passionate about something means it that it is more than just a hobby. It's something that you still love to do and want to pursue no matter how old you are or where you are in life. It is a part of you and influences you in ways that sometimes surprise you.
