Neither are. It is as simple as that religion clouds the mind it makes a person only see the world in one light.

I'm not a fan of religion at all, and I get all agitated when I hear people say you can't have morality without religion.

However...
I don't know of any other place where, for good or bad, as many people gather to contemplate their moral code, or place in the universe.
The thoughts may be ossified and unyielding, but at least religious practice consistently puts people on a path to thinking systematically [though I may not agree with the system] about how we should treat each other, and how we should behave based on our role in creation. I don't know of any other institution that encourages so many to think about these things.
In that respect, religion is relevant to young (and old) people today. Its influence is waning, and we should work to create another space where people can truly contemplate their place in the universe, and how to act accordingly.

There's a lot of hate that goes on against organized religion in my generation. For me, religion provides a group of people who share similar beliefs with me to grow as a person with. Spirituality drives me to appreciate what I have been given and to strive to be the best I can be.

In the way that the deeper structure is exactly what it's always been. Seems incredibly likely that for all of time, whether there's a God, a collective consciousness of the universe, or even nothing at all - its been a constant throughout history. If we needed it thousands of years ago at an absolute level we need it just as much now. If it was balderdash then, nothing would necessarily change there either. Changing times don't really change the value of such things unless we're strictly sizing them up as anthropological events.

I'm not sure, or maybe I'm quite sure that religions DON'T provide spirituality. Spirituality is inherent and religion not. In fact religions are forced upon children and that is sad because the first lesson experienced by the youngster, once they start socializing, is they are different from others which of course becomes the judgment factor - self and against another.

Essentially religions are indoctrination on a grand scale. The preachers, as well as parents, can't market it any other way. That is their only tool which leads to inner fear, or god fearing self analysis and so forth. Frankly it's sad. Why is it that only Jesus gets to save the world? Is he superman? Why is it that Mohamed, 1500 odd yrs ago, still have power over masses today? Is he a conjurer? What does Buddha have that everyone wants to guild his statue? What's so golden about him?
If all these past, long dead, mariners were alive today they'd be embarrassed to see how people have lowered their dignities in that they enforce this doctrines on innocent youth. Youth is suppose to be a renewal, a new beginning from past mistakes in order to free generations from ill fate, however it continues to repeat age old meaningless acts along with poetic analogies which cause nothing but arguments, killings and disunity. Religions = Perpetual Disintegration and as long as its preached/enforced it BLOCKS spirituality. How sad it is to block an inherent awareness. Actually it's not sad, it's evil.
I always thought that long gone are the days bereft of discernment, however the more I look into it the more I discover how wrong I am.

Religion is supposed to show us how to be spiritual. All religions are important/relevant because they provide different ways to be spiritual... everyone is different and they experience their spirituality differently. Religions are supposed to be sign posts helping us find our way, not the destination.

Spirituality is how we experience the universe and respond to it. It will always be relevant because we will always be experiencing the energy around us.

First, religion is useful in that it gives young people something to reject. They should reject or remake it too, in every generation. Maintaining failing traditions out of fear or generational respect is actually not that respectful of your own reality.

Second, spirituality is largely what religion pretends to have become once it has been rejected. I don't mind spirituality so much, because it is almost totally vague and intangible ideas tend not to wield much power over others. The danger, of course, is that spiritual movements usually turn back into religions as soon as they can.

I think that in this day , more than ever , it is important for our youth to embrace a moral compass and seek a belief system large and vital enough to help us cope with these extremely difficult times .

Religion is not relevant today at all when religion is considered the dogmatic response to a relationship with God.
