Honestly, haven't been to Detroit for years, but I know people from my home town (Windsor= South Detroit with healthcare) they still shop, party and eat in Greektown and the Mexican Village. It's kind of hard being MoTown with way less Mo...
No matter what happens to Detroit, it will always be a city with great history, from a French settlement to underground railway, prohibition, Henry Ford, riots, Motown, Eminem... Kid Rock, yeah it has been going down =) The people of Motown tend to be quite inventive, I think things will get better again.

Part of Detroit is the most beautiful city that I have ever seen. I would love to see downtown rehabbed. Those deco buildings are so gorgeous. The brick street and the absolutely spotless track than ran a loop through town were wonderful.

I wanted to show my husband Detroit a few years ago. We were heading that way in our motorhome. Detroit had changed so much that we were afraid to take our coach through the neighborhoods we had to travel in to get there.
I've long thought that we should be putting people to work in Detroit, restoring that ill-treated treasure.

I'm from Detroit, so I'm biased, but I still love my city. It will probably never be the same city it was fifty years ago, but a lot of cool stuff is happening in an attempt to help it take on a new kind of glory. Urban farming, for instance, is something people are experimenting with here. There are also some parts of the city that are gorgeous and in great shape. Not all of Detroit is crime-ridden, and the parts that have remained gang-free are still pretty safe I was downtown the other day and was thinking to myself that I wish they'd report on the nice parts of the Motor City more often. I think there is still hope for Detroit.

It's basically over for the city, it's highly doubtful it'll return to its former glory. Foreign automakers were smart enough to build their factories in the south or down in Mexico to avoid the UAW. Most manufacturing has left or won't return for the same reason, unions. It's a shame but that's the reality of things. Boom town turns ghost town.

This is the second article I've seen that says how bad things are in Detroit.
