I think for there to be a change in the world, there needs to be a change with people at the individual level, and there's a lot that needs change. Greed, selfishness, cruelty, ignorance, laziness, prejudice... the list goes on, and everyone is guilty at some point! But when everyone does their work to change for the better and pay it forward, the positive change in our world would be unstoppable. :)

Everyone says we need to give PEACE a chance. I say let's all step back and give humility a chance. It's mainly through humility where we'll be able to foster PEACE because if we cant take a step back from our wants and needs to see that there are other people just like us there, well only continue to step on one another.

The monetary system, political system, culture of idiocy, school system, food system, transportation, legal system, entertainment, healthcare, and of course religious foolishness.
Basically, the whole system needs to be fixed.

Now this is an exciting question because it gets people thinking. Now what many have said, materialism has to go. Well it wont, because in our very core we have the need materials. What needs to change is the mass murder of war! Stop economical wars, stop developing of weapons that can destroy the entire earth. The USA, China, Russia, North Korea etc. If the money spent on war where spent on the people in its country. Things would be way better!

This is something that has occupied my mind for a very long time. I don't talk much about it because I was always afraid of what people would say. I have done a lot of work with homeless and low income people and not to mention that I grew up around it.

Most people think that this society is set up to meet the needs of everyone. I'm talking about the way we work or educate ourselves. The most asinine way of thinking is allowing yourself to believe that just because something works for you, that it's going to work for everyone.
I believe a change that is necessary is to create a new branch of society. This universe is full of infinite possibilities so just because one way works for some, the obvious conclusion is that there needs to be more. I have a plan that I've been trying to get out onto paper but for me that is challenging. The few people I have shared my idea with either love it or they can't decide if I'm crazy or a genius... or perhaps both.
If people have the freedom to choose religion, why don't we have the freedom to choose how to learn or live our lives. Survival of the fittest does not fit the present world and that needs to be done with. Survival by unity... What good is having a strong 1% if the rest of the chain is near broken. If we break, so do they.

When it comes down to it, for the most part we as a whole have very materialistic mind sets. Saying this, I strongly believe that if we want our world to change for the better we all need to cast aside some of our materialistic wants. Imagine a world where we as humans did not need to worry about money or careers. We could enjoy life at it's fullest with out the distractions of our modern world. Money would not be a concern. We could grow our own food, hunt our own meet, and build all our structures by natural means. I know this sounds like some hippy sh*t but I truly believes all our lives would be much simpler.

This previous rant of mine is relevant here:
If you are interested in changing the world for the better it would make sense to see if every problem facing humanity has a common thread. There is something at the root of our species’ struggles that determines how all of our decisions are made. This is our reaction to the fact of our existence and the realization that it is (seemingly) temporary. The most common reaction is clearly to freak the f*ck out as we can see from how damn popular religion is compared to admitting that we don’t know what the f*ck is really going on here and we probably never will. Every religion is complete nonsense and can’t stand up to reasonable inquiry for much more than a few seconds. But religion has impressively insolated itself from criticism by getting a quicker start than science and by using threats, brutal punishment, and the indoctrination of children for hundreds of years. So at present we live with various ideologies that can easily be proven erroneous with the most basic of logic, yet are nonetheless dominating our political and social discourse.
It is clear that how and why we exist is something that deeply matters to us. The fear of death only makes it more urgent that these issues be resolved. Cue religion to soothe us with stories of how we have absolutely nothing to worry about if we don’t think about it. If we could only outgrow religion, we could begin to actually work on solving the problems at the root of our beliefs. Economic, environmental, and medical issues need to be approached from a completely rational standpoint if we have any hope of solving them. Those who are convinced by religion easily buy into dogma of any kind. This is how people are made to believe ridiculous things such as the idea that tax cuts for the wealthy will trickle down to the lower classes, or the notion that scientists are lying about global warming. If everyone on Earth was an atheist, then we would be fighting global warming, income inequality, and disease. Even death is a potentially solvable problem. If most of us didn’t buy into the idea that another life is a given, we’d put a hell of a lot more effort into extending this one. Futurists, biologists, and inventors believe that we will soon have the means to conquer disease and repair our bodies from the inside meaning considerably longer lifespans, perhaps even indefinite. There’s not much else aside from religion to make us think that this is not a commendable goal.

I'd say legalizing personal choices (drugs, gambling, prostitution, etc.), funding scientific advancement, and fighting religious oppression (through education, taxing churches, openly criticizing dogma, etc.) are good places to start.

I have read through the comments and I agree with the many suggested areas of change. But in the end , they miss the real problem and that is "us." Religion is not bad. It is how people have used religion to serve their own agendas at others' expense that has brought about the problems it has. Is business, commerce, money bad? Not at all. It is however, how we use each of these, how we practice it day to day, that either serves the greater good or simply satisfies our personal ambition. Mind you I have no problem with ambition or aspiration to a higher level of living however that may look to you, but I have a problem when we pursue that with total disregard for how that is going to effect others. And that wanton pursuit of personal goals without regard to who falls by the wayside , reflects a serious crack in that person's concept of "self." Who am I really? Am I worthy? Do I deserve respect? How do I see myself in the mirror?

When I change how I think about myself and heal my feelings of inadequacy, of being inferior in any which way to anyone else, that has huge impact on my life. It has transformative power over my life. It paves the way for me to truly love myself and to embody my worthiness and right to sit at any table so to speak.
It has been my primary work for the last 25 years to tend to the business of knowing my truth and knowing that my truth doe snot need to be defended, explained, or anything else. I don't need to be loved to feel worthy or special. But because of the individual inner work I have done, I am loved and there are many who believe I am special. This in the end has a profound effect on how I relate to the world. I am not in competition, I don;t feel that I must get mine first and then what is left i.s for others. I can stand in front of a stranger and respect them as an individual who is on their own journey. And they may think the way I think or not, it does not matter.
This I think is the beauty of Soul Pancake. Everyone gets to say what they want to say and their is no need for defense or offense. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything but I am trying to remind myself what is important and true for me. That changes the world, one human at a time.
In the meantime, while billions go through whatever process they need to go through to wake up to their own truth, we extend a hand wherever and whenever possible.

Read Sun Tzu's 'Art of War' and meditate on this. Sun Tzu's writing doesn't just aid in conflict and how to defeat an opponent long before it comes to physical combat, its also provides a wonderful set of tools in learning to see precursory formations of dynamics that lend themselves to such troubles.

IMHO our biggest problem is scarcity. Scarcity is the main driver of all conflict, intolerance, etc.. It may not be the one silver bullet - ie. I don't necessarily think it would solve psychopathy or things of that nature but it would thicken the veil of society many times over, all around the world. When we can squash scarcity we can take a good look at how many problems that alone fixes and once we see the remaining few issues we can plan more sensible approaches to those as well.

I think we need more time too evolve. unlock all of the potential of our DNA and the brain. When everyone can do everything that everyone else can do, then competition will die and we will truly see each other as equal. Its happening rather quickly by the universe's terms. We are very different now in most countries than we were five hundred years ago, hell, a hundred years ago.

I think that one change could make a massive difference. The way we think of love.
It needs to be reversed. Many think that love is something that is received. Because it is considered in this way; one is in less control. People in general take actions in hopes that they will receive love as a reward. When they take certain actions that don't result In the reward; frustration causes a negative sense of self worth that can manifest in expressions of negativity outwards, in an effort to raise a false sense of self esteem in that way.
By inverting the expectation, that is to experience reward through the expression; a person in fact has more control of how they view themselves. If you feel good about yourself; you don't need to make others feel bad to make your self look good to yourself.
The result of this type of inverse thinking ties into an awful lot of other things that benefit not just oneself but has a significant impact on others.
The Beatles said it best. All ya need is...something that you have the freedom to choose to give.
Carpe diem!

We need to change HOW we think. What passes for logic in our culture is exceedingly illogical. What passes for education in our culture is extremely ignorant. We, as a culture have sold our souls (metaphorically speaking) for money and powerlessness.

Until that changes, our culture stands on the brink of disaster with no alternative plan in place. Globally as well as locally. But most people don't have a clue that their worldview is flat-out and demonstrably false.

Institutionalized faiths/religions/governments/corporatocracy earned their status through the fact that mankind is ready to submit/surrender its power into those hands, who 'promise' results. We, or most apathetic. Consequently holding up the few who actually try to raise awareness and seek to change the submissive will. Those enlightened few, after they die, are used again and again, as a false distorted figure for marketing only...and if any don't comply the example will be made of them too...
Ringing any bells?
In a nutshell to answer your questions
Is it religions?
Yes and it don't need to change but rather end completely. They are the promoters of peace and unity but yet keeps you submissive. As if don't worry, God will take care of it. Oh it was Gods will that that child was abused and God will take care of the perpetrator. This is the mindset of apathy.
Or how we think?
Absolutely,
We need to change our thinking and shift towards a more self responsible mind
What needs to change?
Honestly! Just us, the individual, and become more conscious
