When was was the last time you read a book or listened to music that wasn't online ?

I would invoke the 5th amendment, but for the life of me, I can't remember the last time I REALLY read, IN - DEPTH, an article, document, or even short story that wasn't online, & I've got 2 bookshelves chock - full of reasonably current books & magazines AND a briefcase with at least 200 CD's from Earth, Wind & Fire to Bach, Beatles & Beethoven, so I've no excuse there, either.

I know - Pretty pathetic, isn't it ? Depending on your POV. I have to wonder how Internet - dependent we're becoming as a species, at least in the developed / developing nations.

i read a lot because i'm an english major. i'm reading ahead for classes now, and earlier this summer a read a couple of books for leisure reading. i like to read. it's not lame! :D

I have never read a book online and rarely listen to music online. (I get some it there, but don't usually 'stream' music) I prefer actual books and I still listen to (gasp) CDs.

I have over 600 CDs, and MP3s just don't sound as good, so my musical transition has been somewhat limited. (Though my MP3 player is jam-packed with stuff!)

Ooh, and my favorite album is Ornette Coleman's The Shape of Jazz to Come, with Focus on Sanity being my favorite song from it. I haven't listened to a legit copy of it in a while though. It's been a few months, at least.

I read often. Dune is one of my favorites (I reread that one two weeks ago), and I'm currently reading an unfamiliar version of the new testament for shiggles. Maybe I'm lucky not to have my own computer. There's a lot of awesome to be had in reading a book outside with a tall-boy of one-buck upchuck in hand.

Does this mean non-forced reading? I have been finishing course work for my degree, and had to do a tremendous amount of physical reading for it. I do prefer reading physical books, as it feels more personal than reading from techology. Musically though I like using the Itunes or satellite radio, more convience and does not allow for as much cluster.

Read from a book everyday and still nothing compares to doing my crossword in the paper...musically...thats different....I like the control technology gives me...but still liten to my awesome public radio station to hear new bands and talent....WXPN rocks ;-)

everyday sweetie, technology is great but I still get more flavor from the old ways, nothing can replace the the feel of a book in your hand

I work in a place where newspapers are sold, so I read the paper every day.

I ADORE magazines.

In my family books are often exchanged as gifts. Most of the time I take an honest whack at enjoying the books I'm given.

I think my music collection expanded at a more rapid rate back when CDs were the primary medium. Downloaded music is hard to keep organized, so I've given up.

I'm in my 20s. You'd think I'd be better adjusted technologically.

Today. I still prefer physical books. I have a great bible app on my phone, but prefer studying my physical bible. Though the phone bible is great for checking references off hand.

I'm currently reading 2 physical books (Storm of Swords and In the Garden of Beasts), and 2 books on my kindle (The Shipping News and God is Not Great), so I guess we have all avenues covered!

A really nice benefits of a kindle is that you can make the typeface bigger when your eyes are tired.

I'm reading a book now that isn't online. I'm pretty retro when it comes to books. I'll always have books because I love them and I never want to miss the feel of lounging on the sofa with my dogs, a glass of wine and a good book. I know I have that experience with a Kindle or IPod but I need books....REAL books!

One huge disadvantage of all these digital stuff is that you can't share it so easily :(

You can't just e-mail someone a copy of the book/CD/DVD that you would simply have borrowed them (which raises the question: wasn't that against the copyright too then!?), can you?

I usually read books on my iPod but that's only out of convince but when I read real book I borrow them from my girlfriend and she shares them with me. She more of a physical book read and I'm more of an eBook reader because when I want a book I want to be able to get a book right then and there. I would rather download a book and have it available to me fast then have to order it by mail or pick it up from a store. eBooks are more convenient but sometimes I miss the smell and feel of a real book. I like seeing the pages bent, the binding worn, and highlighting/writing in it because it makes me think about how many times this book has been appreciated.

I don't think e-readers are "online" so much. especially with the recent advances in the technology, what you get is the whole book, just without the weight of the paper.
I read pretty much all the time...all kinds of books..and my current e library consists of about 150 books that I can carry around in my purse. as for music...well it's in my computer library...takes up a lot less space.
I most recently finished the first two books of a series..on my ereader..that in a minute I'll tell you the name of..'cause I would bet any amount of money that YOU would really, really enjoy, Dan.
I got these two books recently at the library. when I started reading them, they are so dense and thick that the font was only about 3 pts. even with my reading glasses, it gave me a headache. so I bought them for my Kindle (and really cheap, too, they were about $8 a piece, compared to $25-50 bucks in hardback)..because I can change the font size without destroying the integrity of the book. (ya know that large print books get edited so heavily to fit in X number of pages that you actually lose a whole lot of the story. and that's pretty much true of a lot of large print mediums) I had the same issue with the Games of Thrones series. so I have it on my Kindle as well. do I "feel bad" that I choose to have an electronic device to read rather than the hard back in my hands? not in the least. 'cause if they were on my bookshelf..I probably wouldn't read then anyway because it gives me a headache. I would have missed a whole lot. My ereader and the internet gives me a whole lot more opportunity to read stuff that I might not otherwise have the opportunity to read or access too.
Oh, the name of the book is called 'The Name of the Wind" by Phillip Rothfuss followed by "Wise Man's Fear". there is a third one, but it hasn't been published yet. seriously, I sent an email to the author and told him to get on with it. Even if you don't especially care for fantasy (which i don't usually)..it kinda defies description..it's kinda a combination Games of Thrones, HP, LOTR..but not. and it is epic. ;-)

I'm currently reading two physical books, have one more here ready to begin, am listening to one recorded book at work (having just finished two other ones), and one more paper book and one recorded book currently requested for reserve at the library (a lower-than-usual number). I've probably read around a hundred books so far this year.

Does it count if I buy music in .wav and burn it to cd for my car? While I have plenty of cd's I'd never find a music store that supplies the types of varieties of dnb that I like past a few albums. As for the Kindle I have to admit, I'm hooked, so while I have enough books sitting around my room from Amazon I also have another several dozen that I'm reading on a rather sexy looking silver tablet - and I love that I can carry a library with me that way.

I have been feeling in the minority lately, as all my friends are purchasing some sort of e-reader. I just can't do it. I love the physical feel of a book in my hand. I love the feel of the pages and the smell of the binding. Right now I am reading a King novel, and it's gloriously huge. The bigger book I get to hold, the better. As for magazines, newspapers, etc. I feel the same way. While I'm not big on reading newspapers, the magazines I do read, I like to have the actual magazine. The only place that I differ from that is with music. I tend to purchase my music digitally. I did have to buy an actual CD that I wanted because it was an import and that was my only choice. After receiving it in the mail, I realized how much I miss CDs. The artwork, the inserts and even sometime the packaging will complete the story told within the music.
I can certainly see the allure of an e-reader, but its not for this bibliophile.

Tonight driving home from work I was listening to the CD, "Last of the Mohicans".

Last night while driving home from Arizona and going through deserts and over mountains where a radio station would not tune in. I had plenty of CDs. I had plenty of time to listen as I missed the south 215 and 91 transition and drove all the way south to Escondido and had to take the 78 to the 5 and go north to the 91 west. It was a 3 hour trip out of my way, but I had plenty of CDs to listen to.

Been a while, but in 2 mos I will be able to start buying the 100? books on my Amazon list. Brace yourself. What I read that I like I talk about,lol.

My library has stopped getting my requests since I said I thought 'The Hunger Games' was fine for 12 year-olds.

I've been trying to move away from internet based media over the last year or so. I try to get physical copies of CDs but when it comes to books, I couldn't really read them online to begin with because I get distracted too easily on the internet. I actually got a book two weeks ago and i've been reading it slowly when I have the time.
