First off, I'm sorry that anybody said that your views are wrong, and I'm Catholic.

Second, people love seeing their religion be successful. Would you consider yourself as being a happier person if more and more people decided to become Atheists? (Oh, that's a good topic question. That's going to be the next one I ask.)
Many people believe that you won't go to the better part of the afterlife (whatever that is to that person) unless you're of the same religion, which I think is ridiculous. If that's true, than an unfortunately massive number of people are going to hell.
That's the biggest reason, in my opinion. Others may try to convert people because they notice something is missing in these people, and they hope to fill that missing something with their religion. Which is something I support. If I notice somebody constantly making poor decisions, I'm going to suggest that they talk to a priest. If anything, they make great free shrinks.

I am not super religious, but i do have my pagan beliefs, of which I feel at home when I practice some parts of what I like. I feel part of a community of pagans joined together under this one Umbrella. As for others, some enjoy it and live it, some are overly fanatical, and some can take it or leave it. And its all fine...it's their choice, I think they all need/want something to believe it, since we have so many BIG unanswered life's questions and it gives them peace.....(well for some ! LOL)

Each world religion is a library of resources for hope, peace, truth and love. I'd say most people, whatever their persuasion, have the tendency to tell others that they need to experience exactly what they have experienced. But what a world religion gives that no other system of truth offers is variety. An unbelievable variety of thought, experience, community and volunteerism. One may think that a religionist is narrow minded, and many are-- but a world religion isn't, and frankly can't be. The further you delve into a religion, the deeper and wider you find it is.

Some people love the art of love. Some Christians hid Jews at the cost of their own life. Something an Atheist would never do because you need that faith that tells you to die for something.

Have you ever encountered Christians with an amazing love. It is really not fair to judge all by just a few you have encountered.

One general explanation could be that religion is a place to find answers. In prayer, people often look for advice or understanding from the figure that they see to be almighty and infinitely wise. God (to any religion) is the perfect role model, and therefore the perfect place to look for the "right" answer. This makes any sort of response seem correct for the answer generally will either abide to a moral code, or will come from your deepest thoughts and feelings.

I prefer the term spirituality to religion. Most of the church nowadays is so caught up in doing what the Bible says that they miss out on any sort of pure connection with God. In Him, there is the only solace I have ever known, and that solace dwells in my soul now.

Religion should unite all hearts and cause wars and disputes to vanish from the face of the earth, give birth to spirituality, and bring life and light to each heart. If religion becomes a cause of dislike, hatred and division, it were better to be without it, and to withdraw from such a religion would be a truly religious act.-

The religion of God does not do this. Here is a quote from the
Hidden Words:
"O SON OF SPIRIT!
I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty?
Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself?
Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being,
why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me?
Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself with another?
Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee,
mighty, powerful and self-subsisting."

That same sense of freedom you feel is what I feel as well. I feel like the love of God has set me free to be the person I was meant to be and that my relationship with God is what sets me on the right path. We struggle whether or not we believe in God, but religion gives us a framework for how to respond to those struggles within a community of fellow believers.

Religion gives us a framework for how to respond to whatever challenges and triumphs we face. What I really enjoy about my religion is the support that fellow believers, both past and present, provide me throughout my life's different stages.

I'm fully christian, I don't feel shame, or failure. I enjoy religion, because, it makes me feel happy. I love God/Jesus, because He gave His "Only begotten son" for me/ He died on the cross for me.

religion can be done "wrong" in a sense such as judging people, exploiting peoples faith, etc. but religion can help us feel better about the fact that we're on a rock in outer space in the unimaginably huge universe and that we spend our entire lives trying to live only to die at the end of it with no purpose while we walk around like mindless drones with the mindset of it will all be worth it in the end.

Religion gives hope for a better world than this S****y one. Religion can provide important moral values that even me, being an atheist, can learn from without having the utmost faith in God.

After hanging around Soulpancake for a couple of years I've noticed that, on this site, the religious folks are the easygoing ones and it's the atheists who are always telling them that they're wrong and that they need to change.

It gives life a purpose; I'm firmly convinced that us being here is no accident. I like being able to connect with the divine and prayer, meditation, etc. helps with that. Of course there's also the sense of community as well that religion can offer.

Do I always "enjoy" being religious? Of course not. Praying several times a day, not being able to consume certain things, etc. can sometimes be a hassle but I do it because I know it's what God wants.

I think there are 2 different kind of "religious people". One is a spiritual person who truly feels a connection with something greater than themself, and often to all living things, and even linked into a collected consciousness. I am one of these people. I view myself as a dixie cup of water, dipped out of the Ocean. I feel more "complete" the closer I get to the "everything" from which I came.

The other kind of people are what I would call religious, instead of spiritual. People who need this are often the kind that like structure, order, directions, punch cards and jury duty. They want someone to hand them a book and say "Do this and you go to Heaven". This requires little effort in the spirit/soul dept, and peace of mind that after your dead you wont be on fire. This is also appealing to them because they can "know" their enemies will be burning in Hell, and therefore "God got even with Bob for not returning my pruning shears! Muhahhahha!" Most of these people are born into a specific religious sect and stay there for life, its just easier then having to search for truth and fulfillment on your own.
