"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."
- Albert Schweitzer
After dance today, I was walking home from Chipotle and saw an elderly man with a seeing eye dog across the street. The unregulated crosswalk that goes from my street to the UC Berkeley campus crosses a busy street. The blind man waited for a solid 5 minutes, and no cars stopped to let him cross. I stepped out into the street and walked very slowly across to command traffic and make sure the man got across.
I felt so sorry for the guy. He looked pitiful and frightened, and I started thinking about how thankful I am for the ability to use my senses as forces of power. I've since been listing out the things I'm grateful for that go unnoticed on a daily basis.
What is something that you under-appreciate? And how have you been reminded that you are fortunate to have it?
