people use drugs as an artificial escape from their lives. Its sad and pathetic. THey go to alcohol when they want to "have fun" or "forget their problems". Drugs are ONLY there to escape your reality. I think drugs are a crutch.

When I do drink, however, it is to excess, every single time. The reason for that is simple. I'm with friends, and when I'm drink, I laugh with my friends, and I enjoy the moments. It's a great escape for me, but I don't do it a lot. I couldn't do it a lot. I'm not too keen on the taste of beer.

You know what that implies? There's a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it.”

Marijuana makes u feel like a million bucks, And for the record, I'm not a full on pot head and just saying this and being cliche. It really gives you a great outlook and perspective on things. It makes my brain spark and make me creative. I mean lets face it, life can get stressful sometimes, its does help. I have pretty bad anxiety, it runs in my family, it gets bad enough to wear i get sick to my stomach. Truthfully i did not start smoking to see if it would help my anxiety, but it really it gets rid of every feeling of insecurity and nervousness i have through out the day. It used to get sinus migraines when i was younger. I have never taken medicine for them, I havn't had one in three years
man-made drugs are evil

I smoke because it shuts out my inner dialogue and allows me to be fully aware of the moment I'm in. The truth is, I'm not comfortable with the thoughts that I get stuck in and it offers me some relief from that. If that makes me weak so be it, I'd rather smoke a bowl than blow my brains out.

No need I guess, it's just a choice. I consider it a weakness. An addiction like any other, alcohol, video games, smoking, etc...

Genetics changes things. The addict s body/chemistry is predisposed. Also everyone ability to cope with stressors is different. We are not all born equal. No one would chose the life of an addict.

Some of us are not comfortable in our physical bodies. Some of us are not very comfortable with the way our nervous systems interact with reality. Not an excuse, just a couple thoughts.

We all tinker with various mind states whether we're using drugs or not. "During the day, we enjoy our normal, well-accepted thoughts, which people enthusiastically modulate by spiking the chemical cocktails of the brain with alcohol, narcotics, cigarettes, coffee, or physical exercise."(1) ...and the list goes on. We're constantly releasing chemicals in our brains, dopamine in particular, so that we might receive a bit of pleasure. Doing a good deed for a stranger, or watching a loved ones face light up when you get them a truly meaningful gift. The same 'feel good' part of the brain is effected when getting high... so one might say that people who use drugs aren't happy and seek rewards by way of ingesting foreign matter into the body... but such is not always the case. Some drugs can open up your mind and allow you to see things you'd never see in your normal waking hours. And another thing about hallucinations... drugs don't have to be present in one's body in order to experience them either. Hallucinations are as much a part of being human as war or jealousy. "We would surely be missing something important about our own nature if we refused to face up to the fact that hallucinations are part of being human. However, none of this makes hallucinations part of an external rather than an internal reality." ~Carl Sagan

It depends on what kind of high you are talking about. Different drugs have VERY different highs. Every high is a different experience. You're only gonna get addicted if you have an addictive personality, no self control, and no self respect. I personally think the fear of addiction is the greatest motivator to not get addicted to it.

I don't care how good it feels I'm smart enough that if I do something that makes you feel like a million bucks but only lasts like 30 minutes and I have to constantly keep doing it or I'm gonna feel like crap because I don't feel "high" it's obviously something I should stay away from. Some drugs do offer benefits if you know what you are doing. Not all drugs offer negative results. Sorry to break that to the oh so sensitive and innocent world out there... Drugs aren't for everybody in my opinion, only certain individuals can handle it, no matter what the drug is.
Of course regardless of your tolerance to it there are still some that you just shouldn't do because they are what I like to call "dirty drugs" However there are good experiences out there with the right drugs and with the proper dosing.

I don't use but I can see the appeal. I entertain the thought often but fear addiction. The need can be different for different people. Some use it as an escape, some develop addiction just out of habit, some have a chemical reaction that causes addiction.
