Choral music is my passion, and I would have to say that I reach that place any time I am performing as part of a choir. Something about a strong chord or perfect harmony is just so powerful.

I'm an orchestral clarinettist, so I really feel like I'm in that space when my colleagues are also there with me - when the orchestra is focused and playing at their best, I really feel like we're making something extraordinary. That's when I feel at my best, and like the music is just going through me and my clarinet, and I'm lucky enough to have extremely talented musicians all around me to fill the space left by what I've given.

Mine comes from my soul, that's the only way I can describe it. It comes from deep with in, it is an undeniable urge that will not go away until it is out. My form of creativity is fabric art and once I get an image in my head it keeps interrupting my thoughts until I finish the creation. Sometimes it comes to me in dreams, I wake up with a vision in my head. It does not work if I sit down and think, "Ok, let's create something." I can plant a seed of an idea but it seems like the seed has to incubate for a bit before I can begin a project. Once the idea is there, however, it is vibrant and compelling, never drudgery to complete.

It comes from the need to have something come through me, sounds strange but hear me out. So much information is coming in, via email, tv, internet, magazines, advertising, cell phones, FB, other people's opinions, etc so it is out of the ordinary to be creating something instead of consuming something. The act of creation is one of my ways processing what is going on in my life and in the world.

I usually only get to that place after I've smoked a bit. I put my music on, and then everything else disappears and I can write for hours.

I get inspired by nature (I'm a floral designer), dance, or problem solving (I'm a former teacher.) I get really engrossed in things where I feel like I have a real shot at making someone happy or empowering someone. I also get engrossed in writing, but only when I feel the need to get something off my chest.

Trial and error. Listening to other people's music. Noticing no music is quite the way I'd like it to be. Then start playing with that general sense of dissatisfaction.
