I was one of the very first peeps to do a year of service (went back for 2 more!)
I wish I'd done it in between high school & college tho....it helped me focus more on what is important.
So, I say DO it when you feel the need for it. It may be now, in the middle of college.
And whatever you decide...let us know! And if you go....tell us where!

I'm doing a year of service right now after completing college and spending a year looking for work and still living with my parents before performing a year of service. If I could do it over, I would probably have taken some time off from college and done a year of service or travel or something like that. I would say especially do it if you're unsure about your major.

I can only tell you what I did...after years of study of math and chemistry...I felt I really needed a break !

I can only tell you what I did...after years of study of math and chemistry...I felt I really needed a break !
So I left home with 65 dollars in my pocket to serve on the Navajo reservation .
That year was the most incredible in my life ....I learned so much about Navajos and their culture and even more about myself .
( I got a job making donuts and I am an organist so I worked week-ends at a club .)
After that , I returned to school , changed my major to psychology and spent a lifetime in my carer helping people which was incredibly satisfying..I had been on the road to being a scientist but somehow found psychology more needed in our society after I pioneered .
My career as a therapist was incredibly satisfying and I would have never gone in that direction had I not taken a year off .
