Yes. Because thinking of existing for no reason or with no purpose leads me to inner death.

Yes, because without God we would all be libertines with no principals. He does humble us and thus keep up happy. No one can really be happy with no moral guides just doing whatever you want. It's also comforting knowing that there is something bigger and greater than you and everything you know. Something you can trust in with no boundaries.

I need God in my life to keep me humble. I live my life better with the perspective that there is an all-powerful being who transcends all that surrounds us.

If God exists it seems clear to me that he is indifferent to human suffering. God never steps in during a famine or a flood. A terrorist attack or an outbreak of AIDS. He watches from the heavens in indifference as his creations suffer, some of them dying from something as simple as thirst. So tell me this...how is belief in this God at all comforting? Why would a person wish this to be true, much less need it in their life? How is this the antidote to depression or the pains of living?

Yes. We need to be forgiven and loved when nobody else on this earth will do that for us.

I personally need a God. When I didn't believe in God, or any at all really, my life completely fell apart. My depression took over and I had such a terrible view of the world and all that came with it. I need God to get through the day, and even if it ends up that He wasn't real after all, I wouldn't regret a second thinking otherwise.

No, I don't need a God. I think sometimes it is nice to think that there could be some benevolent force taking care of things, but I definitely don't think there is. I think many people do need a God to give their life meaning. I, however, find meaning in my relationships and I hope to give my life even more meaning by leaving behind something that will improve the lives of others. I think that in time, more people will think this way, and religion will become a much more insignificant part of society, which will be a very good thing.

No, because God or no God, I feel the importance of life is to do better for the whole of existence. That purpose is driven from within.

Without a doubt. Its nice to know that your not alone in the world. And Coincidences happen way too open for there not to be some kinda god out there. I don't believe in organized religion because it restricts your own spiritual awareness regarding spirituality and sometimes organized religion can breed control hungry Bigots. But just believing in God...any god really; without answering to anybody but yourself and knowing in your heart that you are loved and cared for is a nice thing to have. If you don't believe in a God believe in yourself. you are the next best thing because the only person that knows whats best for you besides god is you!

Nope. I kinda stopped believing in him in grade six when we learnt about the solar system. That totally debunked the Adam and Eve story for me and I knew I couldn't trust the bible anymore. I also used to test God (even though this is forbidden) to make armchairs float and such as a kid.. Also did not work. Not saying that the idea of god isn't feasible, just saying this is kinda what made me drift from the him. I definitely believe there is something out there but I don't believe in the god people have created because he seems to have a lot of flaws and seems to be a homophobe. What gives me hope is my self confidence and the belief that I can mould my own magical life. Having empathy for others also makes my life a lot easier, makes maintaining drifted friendships a lot easier, forgiveness comes easier too. Depression has encouraged me to see the beauty in everything. Googling answers to my problems is also very helpful. I think the internet is my bible.

i think everyone needs something to believe in. If there was nothing to believe in life would be very depressing and people would find it not even worth living

Why? How can I need something that my whole consciousness knows is a fantasy? A fantasy that works for others apparently, but not for me. A fantasy no different in my own brain than the gods of the world we have dismissed as quaint folklorist mythology: Zeus and Thor, Mars and Jupiter, Odin and well, a cast of thousands.
I have more faith in the possibilities of quantum mechanics.

I do. I talk to God when I'm happy and sad, and it's comforting to know that whether or not he intervenes in life, there is someone else THERE, keeping an eye on what's going on. Helps me to sleep at night. Is that self serving? Probably. I'm not a perfect person.
