What do you do when a mountain needs moving?

I just started watching Moneyball and oohlala I can relate to poor old Billy Beane.

Sometimes you just know in your gut that a change needs to be made, or a shift needs to happen even if all those around you don’t share your feelings of enthusiasm, and/or in fact think you're just plain wrong.

Just exactly how do you go about moving a mountain?

I like to sit on the side for a brief period and ensure that I fully understand the ramifications of the situation, and ensure that the benefits that will arise from "moving the mountain" outweigh the "mountain" itself.

This is my job now...

I have to change the culture of Health and Social Care services - that's 3700 employees including doctors, nurses and every type of therapist in public health care in our county -
into a new way of working...

One that invests heavily in time listening to people seeking help -at the first point of contact-, and seeking to ask what would make for "a good life" for them...

this question often stops people in their tracks and we find that they want more contact with family, to stay in their own homes and not go to hospital or a recuperation unit... and we find that no one has ever asked them this question before...

our workers are much more used to filling in forms, defining need and making people jump through hoops to reach a level of need where care is rationed out to them by professionals who retain control at all times....

The blocks on me doing this come from people set in ways of ticking boxes, trying to deal with people quickly and get rid of them and who secretly like to look busy and have long "pending lists"...

I can't do this alone but have already got on board key managers and the CEOs of the major Public sector (local government and NHS) organisations...

I feel like this. I'm so enthusiastic about writing novels and my family and friends can't really relate. All I can say is just keep doing what you're doing. A person physically pushing a mountain is more likely to move it than a person who's not.
