Talk about stuff that matters.

define marriage in the modern age...

in the old times marriage existed to begin a family or extend a family tree. women did not have rights back then, such an idea would be frowned upon. as time progressed, (i'm making a huge jump) women got their rights, entered the work force, brought some of the bacon home and it was a renaissance of marriage. marriage was, or still is, a priority to have a family. the mention of a b*****d child would be judgmental, as seen in season one in mad men: how can a woman raise a child be herself after a (shhh) divorce?... so what is it today?
people live with each other, have kids, and carry out a well financed life without the need a spouse. is marriage a luxury label for two couples? or does love still exist?

please note i have not seen stats on the number of people getting married today in comparison to back then.. but i'd like to know what others believe. thank you
