I do swear but only when necessary. I hate it when people have to swear all of the time. I think it shows a lack of vocabulary. But this new "law" that they got going is just another form of censorship. The first amendment says we are free to speak our minds, no matter how stupid they may be.

If you don't like it if someone is swearing, especially when you are with a kid, then you can politely ask that person to stop (I bet you most of the time they will). And if the person won't you just go from there. Whenever I was with my dad and we were around strangers who were swearing, he would always ask them to stop and they would.

I applaud the intent, but this is not the job of government.

Besides, those that continually cuss are merely displaying their ignorance of the beauties of the full language, anyway. That is enough of a penalty.

I don't usually curse or like people using it in excess, but fining people for it is ludicrous. Isn't that just a step towards relinquishing your freedom of speech?

I wouldn't mind fining my neighbor's son who stands in their driveway with his buddies, presumably talking but really yelling at the top of their lungs, every 4th word is an F-something and this goes on for hours and hours..... I think that's the kind of thing that town wants to do away with and I'm fine with that or having a cursing section of town for the grossly unimaginative who think cursing every 4th word is the way to express their thoughts. I'm all for the occasional curse word, sometimes it's just the perfect expressive (and we have a family curse jar for those times), but some people curse as often as they say the word "the" and it sure makes it difficult to take your kids to public places.

Being mindful where you are might be good. I can think of many other words that are appropriate.
