The Lama is a metaphorical hammer for peace and harmony in any hemisphere. All hemispheres. An ocean of wisdom. I am down with the Lama.

Yes, he has clearly achieved inner peace and happiness and is just helping others to be able to do the same.

I've heard him speak and we had Tibetan monks who accompanied him stay in our family homes during his visit (in connection with my stepfather's university job). He presents a perspective that I just don't see in my traditional religious circles. When I've heard him speak it's as if he's stripped down what religious education I've had to a much purer essence, the universal teachings, the threads we find in common in all religions. His talks seem more about self-reflection and personal responsibility than the 'wait for God's hand to direct you' I get from my pastor (so to answer your question that to me is something I've only felt fulfilled by his example). His lecture didn't have a lecturing tone (unlike my brimstone pastor or my stepfather's rabbi), never a controlling bent (do as I say not as I do with my pastor preaching abstinence, celibacy or monogamy while he's diddling someone else's wife on the side; my stepfather's rabbi and his wife were even spotted in a local swinger's club right after he'd given a talk on the sacredness of monogamy), or a give-me-money pitch. I've never heard anything money-centric so not sure where firespun gets that from (his accusations sound way off base to me). I've been in the company of others who've heard him speak more often who say his energy literally reverberates in the room. I'm not always sure what that meant but for people who meditate or pray more often or more concertedly than I do it's apparently pretty significant. For me it was like being in the company of someone who's a very wise old man and a gleeful toddler but all contained in one body. I've only been in the presence of a few people in my life, and emerged feeling really great about being alive, he's definitely one. I think he's revered because he doesn't choose violence in response to China's genocide on Tibet. In the same way Gandhi was revered for peaceful protest. It takes a stronger person than I to approach adversity that way. In my book, F-China for its genocide in Tibet and on democracy. I for one will never forget Tiananmen Square.
