I've found the truth of the sentiment to be somewhat overrated. Let's just say what works for Hemingway definitely doesn't work for me. A drink of this or a puff of that can definitely get the creative juices flowing, but I find writing drunk to be a little bit less productive and a lot less fulfilling.

Many drugs can positively influence creativity. For some, it may be necessary for sparking the process. Just be sure to refine your work when you are alert.

Write freely and edit thoroughly, I might go for. Get pissed and scribble atrocious nonsense about the glory of killing bulls? Less so.
