I just sit and stop for a moment and I try to catch my breath. I have a nasty habit of holding onto stress and letting it build until one day it just explodes but I’m trying my best to breathe and just let things go.

I like going onto Pandora, listening to the "French Cafe" station and turning it up so I can hear it in the shower. Then naturally, jump into a hot, steamy shower and sit on the bottom of the tub for awhile and just let the water hit the back of my neck. Burning oils or scented candles is a nice effect too.

You shut it off and do something completely old school, like read a real book. Leave the phone in the other room. Go for a walk or a hike without the gizmo, it is an addiction like anything else, short periods of time without it help, and then take longer spells away from it. That is, if you really want to reclaim your freedom.

ive noticed that our world revolves mostly around social networking, cable tv, texting, and a lot more. my teacher will ask a student, "why are you sleeping in class? what has been keeping u up all night?" a reply would be, "oh i was watching this show i like" or "i was playing my new skyrim" i came to a conclusion that all these things are vanities that are controlling our lives, its kinda scary considering that its very hard for most people to throw their phone off a bridge

go on a walk, be it short or long, to the nearest store.
buy your favorite candy
then walk until u find a spot, the perfect spot, to sit stare and eat that candy.
Just to focus on breathing eating and living.

I believe we have a choice in how hectic our lives can get. Nothing is out of your control; if you don't like some aspect of your life, you have the power to change it! We make time for everyone else these days and don't seem to make time to take care of ourselves.

I try to make time for calm. If my work day gets too hectic, I'll take 5 and retreat to the restroom, close my eyes and repeat "peace" until I feel more relaxed, or take a walk outdoors (weather permitting!). When I go to bed at night, I completely unplug: my bedroom is for relaxation & sleep. I have no TV or computer in my bedroom, I set my phone to silent/vibrate off, and I use light-blocking curtains.
In this day and age, we're SO "connected" to our devices that we need to remind ourselves that it's OK to disconnect and make our own inner peace.

I say no. No, I can' t go out to dinner. No, I won't answer my phone for a few days. No, you can't come over this afternoon. I hole up in my house and read or watch the Decorah Eagles raise their chicks or take naps. I just retreat from the world and recharge.

What you need is a creative explosion. Just recently my life was hectic form school, my cousin just died tragically, family was falling apart, a lot of law issues fighting. I didn't feel comfortable in my own home I was always on the run, doing things for me other people it was just terrible. So one day I just sat down out side, and wrote and drew and wrote and drew for at least 4 hours. It was THE most calming thing ever, the pictures that I drew actually got Best of show too. So even if your not a creative person, writing and drawing could be very calming.

Besides long deep breaths that can go anywhere, I have a newly found "spot" for alone time......reconnection time......and it came in the most unexplected package. Through the guidence of a slick talking friend who loves to buy cars, I finally, got my dream car!! It's a beetle convertible:) I have 45-60 minute commute twice a day. No matter how bad or crazy my day is, the moment I get into my car, put the top down, I'm smiling ear to ear. I use this "me" time to sometimes drive without any electronics, just the wind whipping through my hair. Other times listening to music or TED talks. I have NEVER been a car person.......I would stay I'm a beetle person now;) beep beep:)

If I have a crappy day or week, I come home and put my things down -- change my shoes -- head out for a walk. My wife deserves better than me bringing my S****y mood home to her. If I see her in the garden in the evening I know she's doing the same. It only takes 15 mins to drop the stress. My brother's a cop, with little kids he can't bring it home, his tradition is to workout as soon as he gets off his shift.
