The major contradiction in the manner in which you pose your query is that by definition a "creative person" is someone that creates. Being "in the moment" can definitely be built upon the process of creating.

I like the reference to "be here now." One of the most important books I've ever read. But of course a creative person can be in and of the world. It's a self awareness that isn't hard to acquire. Reality is the most inspiring zen around!

I think it is important to ensure we are speaking of the same idea that, "being in the moment" suggests. For me, true creativity can only come from being in the moment. In order to be here now, one must know and understand many things, such as how to empty ones mind of thoughts and be open to the limitless potential that comes with accessing Universal Consciousness. If your mind is full of thoughts and ideas there is no room for inspiration and new possibilities. Thoughts and be(lie)fs by there own design are limited, narrow, fragments of what they point to. Some would say we do not learn new things we only remember what we have forgotten. Daydreaming is an important psychic process that can lead to many beneficial breakthroughs, but only if one remembers to be in the now while allowing the free flow of potentiality to pass through ones focus. The catch is daydreaming and imagination also lead to illusion and discord if one is asleep at the wheel so to speak(unconscious) which most of humanity is.

If we take a short venture into Metaphysics we can understand more about this force. The human form is an organic machine that creates and maintains our existence by producing many different levels of energy from course to fine, The creative force would be the highest and finest energy we create. We use this energy for many things such as creating another human through sexual intercourse. Orgasms are our mind/body interpretations of this energetic experience which is why we seem to crave them so much..lol The point is yes a creative person can be here now!
Your second statement is not exactly true as pretty much every master from every school of enlightenment uses stories and metaphor to express the path towards true freedom. They may not be screenwriters which is just a word but, many of their works have been translated into scripts that have been expressed in movies. In fact there are still many who try to express esoteric ideas thru modern media. Guy Ritchie made Revolver which was not really about a gangster trying to get his money and life back after being imprisoned and was about the EGO and how to free oneself from it. Richard Mathison's book What Dreams May Come was converted into a beautiful movie about love and loss and redemption. I could go on but this should do.
I hope this has helped and generated more questions then it answered.

i prefer 'envisioning' instead of day dreaming. creatives will always be these non conforming entities crowd surfing. 'creative forecasting' is also acceptable. but we are in the moment when we r imagining. how can we not be? we r conscious. we are awake when we are brainstorming. it isnt a disconnect from reality. its an inner journey. is ur question about that?

I live in the clouds. But why can't the clouds have their moment? Isn't living in the now just being empty headed?

Although I would say the actually act of creating is when we are most in the moment. That's when it all "flows." Idea generation is different.

I think that's what makes creative people creative in the first place, that disconnect. For creative people, thinking about how to do things creatively IS being here and now. That's just how our brains are wired to get through our day.

What almost everyone else has said. Daydreaming, to me, feels more in the moment than real life sometimes.

I think what marks a person as creative is that they can go away somewhere out of the now to find insight/inspiration BUT that they can and do come back to share it.

They operate both in "the somewhere" and "the now". As I consider creation a spiritual act as well, they are people who can walk with a foot both in the physical and in the spiritual.
If they cannot, they are just dreamers or hermits who never realize anything actually creative beyond themselves.
They are someone who finds a great gift marked "To Humanity" . . . but keep it all for themselves.

Yeah, I think creativity can be both generated from present tense improv as well as 'zoning out.' So the answer to your question is yes, they sure as sh*t can.

I spend almost no time daydreaming. I am about as creative as creative gets, output wise.

All of my art comes directly from the moment of its inception. Faerie dust and personal angst are a fashion statement.

Perhaps you could of phrased the question differently but I'm not really sure what you are asking or commenting on. I think the argument could be made there are greatly talented artists who can look at their blank canvas(music/ art/ writing) and just go and create for hours without stopping to think or realize what time and where they are.
