I think psychology tries to label too many things. Usually when I get a song stuck in my head its because I had it on repeat for too long. Right now I have the theme to Knight Rider stuck in my head. I would love to see what kind of reason you could possibly find for that. Or maybe it is just because I was watching the show last night and spent part of the boring chatting with my buddy about the episode I had seen.

Any time I spend with Emery has this song going through my mind.
There he was dressed as a pirate and as handsome as ever. When the Queen dropped her cup, Emery gallantly picked it up, brushed it off and handed it to her, and bowed deeply, hat in hand. I wished that I had my camera out to capture the moment.

Of all the gin joints in the world (Fall Out Boy) just because I'm bored and I recently discovered it (even though it's old) so it's a favorite song and I'll listen to it and it'll play over and over again until I'm sick of it

I assumed a song sticks due to preference and/or exposure. What reason did your psychology class give? Right now I have the Black Keys' Lonely Boy stuck, because Qantas (inexplicably) plays the song every damn time you deplane.

There was a famous story about a little girl who wouldnt talk. Instead she kept humming a song. One of the professors finally revognized what she was repeatedly humming and the lyrics to the song went something like this: *I`m so sorry". So the professor went tothe child and said that he was sorry and so did a few assistent psychiatrists and the child perked up and spoke! She asked everyone in the room if they were sorry! Turned out it had something to do with a trauma she experienced.
