I dunno how i got the nickname 'becky' but i think my parents started calling me that when i was a few years old. my parents were thinking of naming me "heidi," "Emily," or "elizabeth."

I was actually a 'Rachael' for three days (this was back in the day moms stayed in the hospital 4-7 days for a normal delivery... HA!). But my mom refused to put the name on the birth certificate because when she looked at me, she 'knew' that wasn't my name. So, it was getting closer to when they had to have a name on certificate, and the nurses kept pestering her to just put 'Rachael' on it, and my mom kept stubbornly refusing, but she couldn't think of another name that fit, either... and all of this was making my father quite frustrated, so he decided to go for a drive, just to get out of the hospital. Whilst out, he spied a hair salon called "April's Haircuts." So when he got back to the hospital, he suggested it to my mom, who looked at me and said "Yes! That's it. April's your name." And so it is. Interesting side note... throughout my whole life, in school, work, wherever, I've always gotten confused in people's minds with other people who are named Rach(a)el. Go figure.

My name is Fer. My full name is Christopher. When my brother, who is two years younger than me, was first learing to speak, he could only get out "fer". It stuck. It was a family nickname for years until high school. My brother would introduce me as Fer not thinking of it. I got a lot of weird looks but after awhile, everyone called me Fer. I still get weird looks even today, but I love my name and I owe it all to my brother. Thanks Jon.

My first name (Valorie) was the name of the villian on "As the World Turns". I come from a large family and I was the 13th child born I guess my mom had decided to go to television for direction. Very original, but some how poetic because I named my daughter after the red headed little girl living in an orphanage from France "Madeline".

My parents named me Andrew Richard Lombardi (no relation to Vince). Richard is my dad's name, Andrew meaning manly and strong, which coincidentally I am not. I used to think that it was strange for my parents to name me Andrew, because there are absolutely no other Andrews in either side of my family. I looked into it a while ago, and Andrew was the name of the first apostle, and I am the first born on both sides of my family. My parents were Catholic at the time, so it kind of makes sense.

My full first name is Mai Kou Vang. My name is a Hmong name which sounds entirely different from the English pronunciation. My first name is very common in the Hmong culture and is used as a term of endearment by Hmong parents to their daughters. My middle name actually means gold or hot as in high temperature. My parents liked the name because it carries a sense of fortune in it. That also goes with my sister who's name carries the meaning money/cash. It just shows what kind of people my parents are. I love my name.

My given names are Larissa and Beth. Larissa really doesn't have much of a history, my parents just liked the name and they gave each of their children unique names. I can count the Larissas I've known on one hand. I have had many people ask me if I am Russian or Greek, and I am not the tiniest fraction of either. Beth comes from my wonderful maternal grandmother who is Maybeth, and my mother's youngest sister who is Lara Beth. Coincidentally I look more like my Aunt Lara than anyone in my family. I really like both my names, and plan on giving my children unique and meaningful names so that they don't have to be just one of several Ashleys or Davids. I've always considered that to be kind of a blessing in my own life.

First name: Based on the word "ally" because I brought my feuding families together when I was born. My parents were a mixed race couple and both grandparents thought that life would be too hard for a child in a family like that. When I was born however, they stopped caring. It was as if that didn't matter anymore, and they just loved me. I was the family's great "ally." However, I was a boy, so "ally" didn't really work, so they changed it to "Alias." My middle name was given to me by my great grandfather. Thank goodness too. My hippie parents wanted to name me "Moon Wolf." This was 1983, so those of you who were alive then might remember that in 1982 "moon wolf won the award for the name most likely to get your kid's a*s kicked everyday on the playground. phew.

My story is one nothing worthy of cinema, Hollywood, television, literature, short stories or myth. Therefore, it can only be told on SoulPancake. When my mother was pregnant and still bouncing baby name ideas around, she was employed at an old clothing store, Colonel Days (or something of that nature). One day, as she was most likely sorting through pairs of acid wash Levi jeans, she saw a boy running around the store screaming, trying with all his might to escape his mother's grasp. She then heard, "Tyler, stop that!" as the mother grabbed hold of her son. My mom enjoyed the sound of this behaviorally-challenged boy's name so much that she passed it on to me. Thanks, bratty kid.

My name is Bryan, and I have no idea why my parents chose that name (I am happy that I am a Bryan with a "y", though--it's the underdog version). I never thought to ask, but now I will. My middle name is my father's first name, my sister's middle name is my mother's first name, and my brother and father share the same middle name.
