Talk about stuff that matters.

What makes humans "monogamous" and such?

Do humans "mate" for life like specific birds? Or are we like other mammals: polygamous.
Does this depend on natural selection: According to ones genes they either come out monogamous, polygamous, heterosexual, homosexual, or a mix of any of them?
Does natural selection take effect when the human population is naturally being controlled through monogamy or homosexuality?

Or is it all mere social and environmental. What our societies teach us to like. Example: Boobs are a hit. A phenomenon in the west, whereas ankles are the hottest things in other parts of the world. Polygamy is accepted in many cultures, yet most cultures find it to be an abomination. Or is it all chemical and coincidental conditioning?

Do humans go through evolution intervals of population control and "love" and "soul mates" are all in our heads (being the social species we are) are other animals "all in their heads" as well?

Is there more to all this than just...this?

sorry, this is a loaded question...I feel like a hardy discussion.
