that's a hard question because there are so many people that I admire. one idol i do have is roger ebert the film critic, i admire him because of his writing and his wit when it comes to his film criticism.

If we're talking famous people, it would have to be Joe Strummer. I love the Clash; they always had guts to try different things ( doing reagge infused numbers, and later, they were the first white group out of Britian to rap). Strummer's story is great, from the his early days when he was known as "Woody" playing in the 101ers, to the Clash and all that band did and went through, his apology to Mick Jones and eventually re-kindling their friendship and becoming creative partners again, to the years where he was lost in the creative wilderness, only to re-emerge triumphantly with the Mescalaros, putting out 3 great albums. I was lucky enough to see him perform in NYC a few months after 9/11. It was great,I got to shake his hand, he played a great set that included so many great tunes with the Mescaleros, plus covering many Clash songs, the closest thing I'll ever get to seeing the Clash live. Sadly, he passed away almost 2 years later from a congenital heart defect. Interestingly enough, this defect could have killed Strummer at any point of his life, and I think we were all so fortunate to have had him as long as we did. I still get teary eyed when I listen to the cover of "Silver and Gold" at the end of the last album bearing his name, released after his death. Several years ago, my wife got the "Joe Strummer Edition" Fender Telecaster guitar. It is my favorite guitar, and I own some really good guitars. I know the Clash influenced my musical taste, encouraged me to listen to new things, and influenced so many bands.

Tupac. His music is just, awesome. He's had a major positive impact on me growing up listening to his music. Sometimes It feels like he wrote those songs just for me ^_^
