A couple of things to consider re: delivery of tickets--first, most theaters should have a will-call service where you can pick up your advance purchase tickets right before the show. The other thing to consider is, if you must have them mailed, having them sent to the hotel. If you contact the concierge at the Affinia, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to accept and hold them for you. They probably do it all the time.

Have you seen Blue Man Group? On my one and only trip to NYC, I was lucky enough to fall backward into some tickets. They have their own theater in NoHo near the East Village (listen to me; sounds like I know the city, which I don't). It's a great show and my guess is it's very much your cup of tea. Their full price tickets run $80-$100. They can be ordered online and held at the box office. If you care to take a chance, I'm sure you can do much better with last minute tickets.

It's expensive to do anything in New York. It's also expensive to do nothing in New York.

Be sure to check with your Hotel (if you are staying in one). They can often arrange tickets for a discounted price especially Hotels located in the Theater district.

I have heard too that on one weekday (Wednesday?) the big shows have matinees that cost much less, so people who live in New York like to go then. These may be called full-run dress rehearsals.

My daughters have each been to New York several times and always take advantage of using the booth to acquire inexpensive last-minute tickets. It works pretty well as long you're open to attending any show that has tickets available and realize you may be sitting on the back row of the more popular ones. In the fall my daughter got into How to Succeed in Business starring Daniel Radcliffe and a lesser known play starring Alan Rickman. And, when she visited New York with her high school drama club twice, they always picked up more tickets this way for those who preferred seeing shows over shopping (already had reserved tickets for three shows but received a special group rate for those).

I think the line moves pretty quickly because I recall my daughter having to gain my permission for her teacher to purchase a ticket for her to attend a show containing strong language and partial nudity...and I barely had time to speak to her teacher to give that permission before they arrived at the front of the line. I think there is a certain time on weekdays when the line is shorter.

I tried to join this one website that did seem to be able to offer quite decent discounts - but it wanted so much commitment and then wouldn't let me do it in advance from the UK... a load of wasted time..
I think I might do better to just ask around when I arrive but I tend to find the odds are I will miss out on something if I don't plan ahead...
