i do believe our brains give us the illusion that we are here for a reason. because if man kind were wiped out, the world would still be here and if anything it would stand to gain much more. because we are like parasites living on earth, killing it, sucking it dry etc. (water, pollution, deforestation and on and on) and with the humans evolution and self awareness we have come up with reasons why we're here (God created us, to help the less fortunate, find love, reproduce like every other living creature on earth does, and the list literally goes on and on.) but the fact that we happend and are this self aware, i believe that we stop worrying "why" we are here and just keep living our "life's" we have created and hold so dear to our hearts. if we have a purpose of being here it will eventually unfold but honestly you would be chasing a rainbow. just enjoy life, pray to "god" or who/what ever you pray to, go to work make money (or take it from monopoly because it all has no physical meaning) and when it's over... well, you fill in the blank ________.

I really wish I had the answer to this! It's the ultimate question really. People can spend a lifetime trying to figure their 'purpose' in life. Personally I like to think we are all here to provide a service to fellow kind. I don't necessarily mean we all need to rush out and build schools in the poorest parts of the world or man soup kitchens......but I think we all have individual talents that can be used to provide that service. A good example is a musician. Their talent can bring joy and happiness to many. A comedian can make others laugh. An artist can bring visual stimulation and enjoyment. You get the drift......

Not to take life too seriously. Have some fun, make babies, and try not to leave the world in too much of a suckier place than when I arrived. No regrets!

The Baha'i Faith states our purpose here is twofold:
• As individuals, to acquire the spiritual virtues we'll need both now and in the Next Life.
• In aggregate, to carry forward an ever-advancing, spiritually-based civilization.
And the purpose of religion is to show us HOW to go about these!

Picture this: you're walking through the desert and there appears to be no end in sight. You've been walking alone for miles with no food, water, or shelter. Just when you're about to give up, you see a vehicle about one hundred yards away with it's door open, and you walk up to it, only to find a note that reads, "Thought you'd need this." You look inside and there are the keys, as well as an ice cold glass of water and a hot, full course meal. The vehicle has a full tank of gas, too, so you can leave the desert and go on home. Would you think all of this was put there by accident? Absolutely not. Would you think someone put this here for you? Absolutely. Why would you think it was put here for you and you alone? Well, it's just perfect for me and my situation; it was put here for a purpose. I said all this to say this: I don't think purpose is meaningless, and if it was, what is the purpose of purposeless purpose? It takes more faith to believe that we are here by accident than it does to believe we were put here by a Creator. Knowing your purpose is something you'll have to find within your self. Personally, I feel that my purpose is to love God, love others, and use the abilities God gave me to make a difference, even if it's a small one.

It's the false concept of meaning and purpose that were invented by some idiot thousands of years ago that makes us all want to have one. How egotistical it is to think that some divine patriarch assigned you, specifically, a special part in the world while thousands of little kids are born and then die pointless deaths and while other animals walk around and die without one. Do we think we're so special that we're god's favorite little suck up? I don't.

It's all artificial. Purpose is purposeless, meaning is meaningless. There's only one reason I'm alive today and that's because my dad had sex with my mom before getting his vasectomy (and the evolution of my dad from some funky bacteria from outer space) We don't need a reason to be here. We're simply here, end of story. Some people want more than that to feel important I guess. Or feel like they're doing what they think is good. But, considering the subjectivity of all that jazz, that's kinda an illusion, ain't it?

I think "just being here" is a net loss to the world and its sundry flora and fauna. You are, after all, consuming resources to "just be here." If you can figure out a way to do so without taking up space, using materials or creating waste, go for it.

Otherwise, be useful. Make a positive difference.

Yes. I was also thinking about this yesterday. Our emotions feel so... important to us. Why? Because we know we will die one day, and as far as we know this is our ONE SHOT at life on Earth. So, everything must be important and have a purpose.
