I think I am quite at peace with my physical death. The "going" is not a concern. (The "how"? Can't say 'till I actually get there!). So from that point of peace, I think I would cherish hearing my loved ones assert that THEY were going to be alright: that certainly they would grieve, but that they would grieve well and walk out the other side of grief as a whole and not a fractured person.

At 93, would I be right in guessing that he is mostly at peace with his own passing?
Now if someone were not at peace with their passing, I think I would instead do whatever I could to help them prepare and be at peace. Personally I believe that one's mindset at the moment of death has very much to do with any afterlife that might come. I think that is why so many faiths have an underlying theme of glorious unity and participation in something greater than just self.
Well said by Novelist below about not wasting a single opportunity to let your loved ones know how you feel. A LOT of anguish seems to come in grief . . . over things one waited too long to say and now it's too late.
