Would you kill? Why?

I guess it's not such an alien question. Do you have the capacity to kill? Do you see yourself doing it? In what context? I am not talking about being a cop, or FBI or anything like that. I am talking about being a civilian. Without any criminal background, no major red flags, just whatever comes close to "normal"... whatever that is in your life.

I never thought I would. I haven't. I hope I don't have to. I would avoid it at all costs, but self defense would be big. I think, again, I'd rather run or hurt someone, than kill them. I would loose my mind though for a child, which I don't have one yet. I can totally understand moms who say that. But then again, I try to be my best and stay out of trouble.

What would you do?

Certainly.

Killing is the elimination of a deadly threat against your friends, family, yourself, or an innocent bystander.

Murder on the other hand is the unlawful premeditated killing of evil another human. It is immoral and has no justification.

A lot of people fail to see the distinction but there certainly is one, scripturally, practically, and ethically.

If someone was attacking me or someone I was with and I knew it was the only way to defend us, the answer is yes. I have been physically attacked and my instincts were not to kill because I don't WANT to hurt anyone. For instance, I had to defend myself in a sexual assault, I knew in that moment, the smartest thing to do was to defend myself and fortunately for me, what I did to defend myself put him out because he GREATLY underestimated my strength and I didn't hang around to talk about it either.

However, I would have done whatever I had to to defeat him but that's based on my defense instincts and NOT a desire to hurt someone. I only did enough to him to get away and there wasn't enough evidence to me to prove that he had done anything. I knew what he was after but he didn't get far enough that I had physical evidence that he did anything to me and I'm glad- I'm fortunate to be alive. Sometimes the most brutal thing to an abuser is NOT keeping their secrets and talking openly about what you have experienced so they know that you aren't afraid to do so.

The only time I would kill would be in self-defense, or in order to protect others that I care about. I don't think I could ever kill out of pure anger or malevolence.

Yes I would. If the person I plan to kill, has the same mind set, which means that he/ she wants to kill someone or me as well. To prevent evil by killing it. Would that mean I am evil too? Maybe. But if I were to allow someone else to kill another than that's just as good as me killing the victim. I would be responsible for that person's death. In the end, you have to weigh out the options. I think killing the murderer would be better.

It's interesting how people bring in God in everything, when the question had nothing to do with God - only yourselves. Stating that God does this or God does that, whilst being unable to prove his existence and thus in fact being unable to prove he does anything at all. Since you can't disprove his existence either, there's nobody to say what this fancy sky man doesn't do either. Therefore, I'd leave him out of the answer to the question.

Answer:
No, I would not kill, unless somebody was seriously threatening me or my children - in such a scenario which would either result in me or my children's death, or the other persons death. I'd avoid it at all cost though.
However I do agree with comments regarding the nature of humans - it's dumb to view the killing of another human as inhumane or unnatural, when in fact that's what we've done non-stop the past 10 000+ years, and still do. Just because you don't see it outside your house, doesn't mean a lot of others around the world doesn't - and because of you and your culture.
Wars waged around the globe we're all responsible for in the western culture, killing and exploiting so many people around the globe ... But you wouldn't do it personally. Luckily you don't have to do it yourself these days, nor do you have to see it.
And as for it being unnatural, not really. Most predators and hierarchical animals compete for the top position, or other things, resulting in the death of a rival. Sure, we want to think we're more civilized now - in fact we've just mobilized, and moved the war front away from our houses.

Killing is stupid and solves nothing. I don't care if you are atheist, or if you are Jesus. Don't kill.

One can never truly know until put into the situation, and I hope as few people as possible ever have to find out.

Damn some of these responses are a little freaky.
I think killing is one of the ultimate evils a human can commit (and I don't mean in a strictly religious/spiritual sense, I mean, as a human) and should never be taken lightly.
That said, I do believe I could kill if it meant saving myself or someone I loved. I believe I would have a harder time killing for myself than someone else, but until you're in that situation you can never really know for sure, right? I'd like to believe I'd try everything else and use it only as a last resort. I think some people don't deserve to live, but that alone doesn't necessarily justify taking their lives.

I agree with Morivou almost completely, but there's a more negative side I'd love to explore. Murder in itself is saying "Hey, you have to go" to someone that doesn't have a place in the murder's concept of the world/society. Think about how shortsighted the dumbest, unnecessary, idiotic and tragic murders are. It's kids who think their life will never get better, or bad marriage fights escalating. It's having gang life indoctrinated as the only life. Murder happens when your very "life" (either physical or spiritual or worth) is threatened and there is no escape.

That being said, if I'm attacked, I have to defend myself with my stringy muscles and the contents of my pockets. If I can get help, awesome. If it's my life and my loves versus them, I'm only human.

Yes. I think murder has to happen. We put such a negative connotation on it because of the Societal Compassion we have for our loyals; yet, I feel as though this is misguided. When there is evil done in the world, that evil has the right to be eradicated due to human nature's desire for status quo and banality. We desire a lack of deviation from a current existence of peace because War is harder. When we see the bad in our own society, we want to destroy it to protect ourselves and our families.

This is only natural.

And, why challenge natural? ;)

Self defense: definitely. Just because someone pisses you off? I would think twice about that.

Sure, God does it all the time and way worse. Why not? I mean, generally, I would just leave such things to God, but I don't think people should pretend that our nature is to be wussies.

I suppose, there are 'a lot of people who should die'. But, in reality, I have found the best way is not to kill their body, is why I don't go around hitting n**i sorts with baseball bats. But to kill their robot souls which takes their bodies with them. That way they never come back. Also, it is way more fun.

If someone butts in line, then they deserve to die a skull crushing death.

i can't even bring myself to kill a bug. Jesus said if you have hate in your heart for someone, it's no different than if you've murdered them. So i intentionally pray for people that are opposed to me in some way, that way i've connected with them spiritually & love them. My violent passion comes in offering myself to be killed on behalf of a person or for justice. Otherwise, murdering another person (even if they've killed my daughters) is murdering myself.

Though it would haunt me for the rest of my life...yes...but ONLY if it were to protect children.I would not kill to protect myself. "Thou shalt not kill" is a biggie for me. I am not any less a person in God's eyes if I allow myself to be killed. (ie:Jesus)
