LOL. IDK, stuff like that happens all the time and it is so unimportant to me that I can't even recall it.

I just take compliments and insults for what they are worth and leave it at that.
I used to work as a nurse...so I wore uniforms all the time (at work anyway). One evening I ran into an aquaintence and I was "dressed up" for dinner. so the aquaintence said "OMG! you look so DIFFERENT! I hardly recognize you with clothes on!" LOL

Compliments are no more meaningful than insults. They are about the giver, not the receiver. Everyone speaks from their own perspective and it will, mostly, have nothing to do with you.

I try to have a thicker skin than that.
Even an inept compliment is still an attempt to compliment.
And a genuine insult (even couched in nice-ities) is just someone saying that something about you threatens/intimidates them.
And a joking insult is someone saying, "I hope/think we are good enough friends that I can get away with this!".
Thicken your skin.
Then all of these things are good in the moment; and not something you might feel obliged to "keep track of"!
As a photographer I'm always hearing people saying, "Wow! You must have a good camera to take a picture like that!". There is what they've said: then there is what they mean: and then there is what I choose to take it as. I choose to take it as a funny attempt to compliment me!

"Wow you look realoly pretty" after a day where I did my hair nice, wore an amazing outfit, put on some makeup etc. I know that I'm pretty today, but what about the day I'm in jeans. It isn't too much like an insullt but it's almost like the person is saying you need all of that stuff to look good.

I have a good example of a classic asteism recently used on me. This person was someone I haven't seen in a few years.
