Not a "full" definition of a "great" person. I just wanted to put this greatness in a 21st century context. I feel like the days of defining humanity and its descriptors as being either of "man" or of "woman" are over. It is time to define greatness based on our ability to transcend old school social constructs. I believe true greatness should be demonstrated to as many people as possible, regardless of demographic.

Of course, there's a chance that everyone else has been assuming this. In that case, I'm guess I'm "that guy" who's making it about gender. I'll take that one for the humanity team.

A lot has changed about the world, but not about what makes a man great. It's still sacrifice. The men of generations ago gave years, and often their lives, to protect the world from evil. It was dubbed the "Greatest Generation." The greatness was more smack-you-in-the-face then. Great men today still sacrifice. It's just subtle, or maybe there is less of it, or maybe it just goes underappreciated. We have so many more opportunities and freedoms. Society tells us to look out for No. 1 and make the most of OUR life, but every day men sacrifice parts of their career for a spouse's job. They give up season tickets to buy a safer car or to live in a safer neighborhood. They take in a sick relative. They give up lucrative careers to teach. They go to middle school recitals instead of poker nights. They volunteer and donate and remember vows. Not all, but a lot more than we are told about, I hope.

Its all about character. Being a stand up guy who doesa the right thing, even when its easier to run away from problems. Someone who makes mistakes, admits them and learns from them. Someone who leads by example. Ultimately, someone who inspires people to be better people.

God is in the center of his life. He takes time out to read the bible and pray.

He's willing to do whatever it takes to support his family (my dad literally shoveled manure)
He's loving, honest, caring, kind and forgiving
He admits his flaws
He has strong work ethic
He's willing to stick with his wife even when it would be more "convenient" to do otherwise
He learns from his mistakes
He helps around the house without being asked
He spends time with the wife and kids when he really should be doing other things
These attributes I will attribute to my dad.

He will strive for peace, but will prepare for inevitable moments of war. He teaches his children good values, and not force his own wants and desires on them. He shows patience with the ignorant and teach what they should know.

I think a great man should be measured by his deeds. How much did he contribute for the benefit of mankind? He will do things and not expect accolades for them. He will strive for peace, but will prepare for inevitable moments of war. He teaches his children good values, and not force his own wants and desires on them. He shows patience with the ignorant and teach what they should know.
Finally, he is tolerable with those who does not hold his view in life.
