Until leaving the workforce last year to freelance and take care of my kids, I spent over 10 years moving up the ranks. One job, I realized was a mistake the day I walked in. I sat down and realized that my desk sucked, the office sucked and my coworkers sucked. Like they said in the movie "Office Space" every day was worse than the last. It took me a year to find a better job (I took a job in Jersey and they offered a rate competitive to NY, so it was hard to find another job like that in the burbs).

My advice is to just stick it out, but apply for other jobs like crazy. You have way more leverage when you are already employed in terms of salary and benefits. And, remember everything is negotiable, so ask for more $ when they make the first offer and try to wrangle an extra week or two of vacation.
Good luck!

I'm grateful I have a good paying job. I have my own office off in a quiet corner, decent benefits ( for this day and age) BUT, I can't stand my supervisor, can't stand the people here. Many reasons really, I am looking for a new job in a field I enjoy and I will probably make less money...so be it, I'm not married to the place.

do the best you can at the job you've got and always keep an eye on the door. Employers seem to really being enjoying being able to ressurect sweat shops.

I have known quite a few administrative assistants who have used their jobs to springboard them to something else in the company or industry. Some have gone into HR, IT, graphic design, and even management.

My first job out of school was a data entry job, where I basically sat all day at a computer entering in thousands of numbers. Not very fulfilling nor challenging..however, I used that job to move further in my career and find something else I did enjoy.
Hang in there - And keep your eyes open for a good opportunity to do something you will enjoy~

I have a crap job too. I work security at a retail outlet, all I do is stand there for 11 hours and the managers never tell me to do anything ever. It's an easy job and it's nice to get 300 dollars after a weekend of work but it kills me! My back is sore and my feet hurt from standing in one place for so long, I get bored outta my mind and I'm sick all the time because most of our customers are from different countries......

But really, should it be any other way? When I stand there I think to myself "ohhh, this sucks a*s, the managers should blah and I should blah and I wish I didn't have to blah the blah..." But thinking about the way things SHOULD be is an illusion and it's what causes us pain in the first place. There is no should or could or would, there is only what IS. And what IS, is this moment right now. Remember that at your job when you start to think about how things should be or what you'd rather be doing and then just forget about those things and concentrate on making that moment better and just go with it. Even if you can't make it better, that's alright. That's just how it is.
You can always quit too, find another job. There are a few jobs out there now-a-days. Some even with medical benefits. Try searching for a new one while you work the old one and quit if you find a better one.

Don't take it so hard. We just don't want you to be miserable because that makes us feel miserable. Trust me. This if for your own good.
Ok, now imagine how you would feel if your boss came up to you and said that. Are you any less miserable? Would you be more miserable?

1. Don't quit until you've found another job. Jobs are too hard to come by these days.

2. Join a personnel agency or two or three. Let them help you with your search.
3. Make a list of the "top ten" places you'd like to work and send them your resume. Then your next "top ten" after that. Then the next "top ten". Keep going.
4. Tell everyone you know that you're looking for something new. Use your social network to send you tips and suggestions.

I've never had a job I hated. If I was going to hate working there, I wouldn't have applied for the job.

I have never owned a business I hated. If I didn't want to own a business like that, I wouldn't start the business in the first place.
Who sees a job that is going to be hated and applies for it?

so I quit.
times are harder now - so make the most of what I suspect is boredom time in that post, and outside of that work time, by learning stuff that will lead you to a new job you want more - online or however, think, read, do - work - instead of watching TV - work. instead of coming online here - work on it - whatever it takes
don't be passive and expect someone else to be a fairy godmother - that doesn't happen.

Actively look for one you might enjoy, but don't quit this one. By no means should you quit unless you have a backup. I can't even get a job at the hourly places like Best Buy or McDonald's. You can't improve by just sitting around and feeling miserable.
