Sleep as much as you can, as much as your symptoms will let you. Sleep heals.

As said below, tons of fluids, which might keep you from sleeping a lot if you're peeing like a race horse. You should be in one of two places: your bed, or your bathroom.
Vicks Vapo Rub on your throat and chest.
A humidifier in your bedroom.
Nyquil.

After you get a little better get a Netty pot. Look for it. It's saline water that you use to clear your sinuses. Works great and no drugs.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate... drink plenty of water. Get plenty of rest, but try to stay at an inclined position (prop yourself up with some pillows or lounge on the couch), it will help your sinuses drain, you'll get a sore throat and an upset stomach for a day but it will help to shorten the cold over all and save you from letting all that bacteria rot in your sinuses. Cold compresses to help control the fever. Over the counter meds to help with the symptoms (head ache, fever, congestion etc). Chicken soup is always good, home made, with lots of veggies if you can swing it.

If it does move out of your head and into your stomach then clear liquids only for 24 hours.

one thing that can be helpful..at least in preventing those congested sinuses is to add some humidity to the air. heating in you home dries out the air. I frequently run a humidifier with something like vicks vapo in it.

otherwise lots of liquids (preferably water, and not soda or lots of juice. sugar increase secretions and caffiene dehydrates you) , bedrest ( or just take it easy for a couple of days...be nice to you) and some tylenol or ibuprofen. there are several pretty good decongestants and antihistamines on the market as well that might be helpful. I generally keep a supply of something like dayquil/nyquil on hand. in addition, I simply don't "make time" to be sick. I know that may sound weird, but since I quit making time for it, I am very seldom sick.

Comtrex is my go to pill. I take two every four hours (even at night) for a day or two. It will punch you in the face like a softball filled with sand, but as long as I'm at home its worth the immobility.
