Authenticity: When are you most Authentic?

I've been thinking about this word a lot lately. For me, college has begun the lifelong process of exploring and discovering my individuality and identity. Living on my own and pursuing the career of my choice has allowed me to break free of the world I was raised in and do not completely agree with. As I grow and change and let my true self out, I look back and feel that I was not authentic before. Even though it felt like I was in that moment so it may be all relative. I think there are many influences from family, school, friends, society and culture that make it difficult to remain true to yourself.

I value honesty and genuineness in people. I have moments when I feel authentic. As an artist, it is sometimes when I am in the studio having a real connection with my art that I feel confident this is who I am and made the right choice of where I want to be. But would like to feel more authentic the majority of the time.

My question for you is when or how do you feel most authentic? And how do you maintain that authenticity?

What do you think?
