The terrorists will have succeeded without even trying. They're probably already laughing that a jarred cupcake has been elevated to the rank of "public threat"; perhaps even "threat to national security".

While one can seek the illusion of security, all clamping down one's borders does is feed isolationism and paranoia. The U.S. already has serious (and Historic) xenophobia issues.
Plus, who would do the immigrants' jobs? You know, the ones that most 3+ generation immigrants think are beneath them!
And yes melb2, the Canadians would be disappointed. As disappointed as a neighbour you grew up with suddenly erecting a mini Berlin Wall between you because someone from across town once hurt them years ago.
It runs into the process of distancing friends . . . all out of paranoia about potential enemies.
I think that most people know that terror (essentially bullies) will happen -- whether imported or home-grown. Perhaps the question to ask is this:
Do you believe enough in what you live for . . . that you are also willing to risk death for it?
(Or does one just hire soldiers for that task?)
Also, has the illusion of security . . . become more of a delusion?

Well all those people bitching about not having a job could do all the jobs that Americans supposedly "won't do"...

Quite frankly I don't see what the problem with picking fruit is. I would rather pick fruit all day, outside in the fresh air and sunshine for minimum wage than sit behind a desk, in a building with no windows, under a florescent light, surrounded by computers, dealing with pissed off customers... for a dollar over minimum wage... any day of the f*****g week. When it comes to low paying jobs, fruit picker certainly seems a hell of a lot better than fast food, retail, call center work, or customer service.
Oh and as to the price of produce rising... yeah America grows corn and potatoes pretty much everything else comes from Mexico anyways.
