What crucial life-skill have you learned recently?

My son literally just learned how to tie his shoes. Literally. It was a joy and a wonder to watch unfold. He's filled with a new-found sense of pride and self-awareness because of his accomplishment. What have YOU learned recently that gives you a new-found sense of prideful accomplishment? (ps I'm proud that I actually took a video and uploaded it all by myself for this here challenge!)

No offense but if he only just learned to tie his shoes, something might be wrong. He looks like he is at least 10.

Instead of tossing out some cliche response that all these hipsters are throwing out, that they never actually learned and are merely trying to make themselves seem intelligent. I have learned letting people help you with anything is rarely a good thing. I had some big ups thanks to no help. Than when things went south people offered help and it ended up s******g things up far more. Nowwww thanks to true friend you can bank on things might have finally taken a turn for the best. Is this a life skill? Doubt it.

A life skill is realizing your purpose, A life skill is realizing you are not just a person standing in a sea of people, identical to you, born out your mothers womb, raised in a way that obviously kept you alive...

A life skill is seeing the dream that you too can make the millions of dollars everyone has so desperately kept from you..
A life skill isnt learning how to cook your mothers favorite fg pie, learning to hold your tears back when you get a phone call and find out your friend is dead

i learned how to budget my time with video games, because had it not been for skyrim, I get the feeling I'd be running for president in the upcoming election

Minimalism. I feel that this is a crucial life skill. As an artist, time and space is the most valuable resource. Wasting money on materials, and cluttering space, can be a subversive enemy to an artist.

Even though life doesn't always make sense in the midst of the storm, the storm just always seems so necessary when I look back...

I learned that if I don't back down from a bully, s/he usually does the backing down. I love it.

That I can do without television!

I second the response below. I know I'm young, but I've always been seen as a leader among my peers and even elders. I try to lead others as best i can and do well, but one day in class, a small event opened my eyes to quality of leadership I'd been missing all along. A particularly ill-mannered and short-tempered student asked me a dumb question, to which I gave short and rather smart answer. My teacher kept me after class and simply said "Daniel you're a leader and you know it, but sometimes you gotta step back and just listen. You can't lead someone you can't hear." and I really started to step back and just listen. I find everything easier and now I'm twice the leader.

I've learned to shut up and listen. Jumping to conclusions can be a very hazardous mistake. Facts are what it's all about...not here-say or gossip...these are the things that start wars. I've promised myself to open my ears and shut my mouth.

I've learned that real frineds don't want anything from you but conversation

bought me a graphics tablet, (a wacom intuos 4 medium) and i'm learning to draw and paint with it. since i'm going to be laid off in a couple of months i'm hoping that these new skills will be part of my new post-current-job life. it might not be a life-skill like learning how to brush your teeth, but it's a new-life skill.

I bought a new rake that made raking the yard so much faster. So I learned that sometimes it's better to spend a little more $$ to buy a better tool. Working harder is not the same as working smarter.

I learned very recently - like a few days ago - that being a little bit crazy and weird is ok. In fact, it's something that I love about myself. My ability to laugh, even at the most awkward times, is something that I take great pride in. It makes it easier to let things roll off of my back and not take life so seriously.

To question even the most normal of beliefs. To realize there is no normal. To constantly search for meaning, truth, and beauty.

I've learned how to truly live: expand the mind.

I learned recently that whatever I do, I should do it because I want to, not because they tell me too.
