Is our misguided pursuit of happiness the source of our misery?

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” —Albert Camus

Ask most people what they want in life, and they will say, "I just want to be happy." Ads tell us that products can make us happy. Movies starring Meg Ryan or Katherine Heigl bash us over the head with the idea that the "right" person will make us happy. Heck, the pursuit of happiness is even written into the U.S. constitution. But what does it mean to spend your life hunting for what will get us to this elusive state of contentment, well-being, and joy (a.k.a. happiness) only to be disappointed and still miserable when we have it all?
