You've been hearing it all over the news,
occupy wall street occupy oregon occupy oakland
occupy conneticut.
I got a new movement, I'll pitch it to you here so you can
get behind it
it's called occupy mindset.
It's where i get the bankers
from the ceo's to the baby kissers
to the hand shakers
I get the politician
to listen
the celebrity
to sit down with me
I'll round up the school boards
managers at department stores
tax collectors and land lords
Helath inspectors
college professors
and fancy dressers
Snag all the big guys as casinos
rope in Ceos
the president before he vetoes
And maybe even the board of trustees
will trust in me
Once I get them there I'll thank them
for their time
I'll put them in one giant line
to lead them through lives
As they walk they will see children who wonder why
their parents always look defeated
super moms and super dads
powers depleted
hear "no I didn't pay the bill I thought you did"
a woman call her husband stupid
because he couldn't afford to graduate a university
and he can't figure out how his dad
fed a family of three with a truck driving job
and no bachelors degree
They'll see hungry children eyes
tears when the family dog dies
People praying for health insurance and when it never comes
they will see real endurance
See a woman who needs a couple bucks to get by
give her last couple bucks to a homeless guy
And after this 3D blockbuster
after the last of the lines
we can do away with the tents and the
signs
because now, we occupy their
minds

This sun isn't up,
I have a cup,
Of coffee here,
Why do I fear?
I'm anxious now,
And wear a scowl,
For friends on here,
That I hold dear.
So upset, 'bout this,
Might just make a list,
Of troubles many,
Like that bad penny.
Why so mad?
It's kinda sad,
To start the day,
In this way.
Trying to see,
If I, yes me,
Can start a thread,
We won't dread.
One subject here,
Fills all with cheer?
I don't know it,
I'm just a poet.
10/11/11 @0628 EDT by me, Rosie!

Wedding Waltz
We two danced clumsy at the start, our feet
Like frozen bricks. Our families winced and prayed.
We almost squished the marble cake, a sweet
Depicting all our hope that love would stay.
We practiced thirty years, foxtrot, hip-hop.
We learned the waltz of love sometimes does hurt.
I came to love your double chin, and you
Kept steadfast in my arms when I lost work.
The hours and weeks passed by and still we danced
Forever and always we thought t'would go
But then last year Doc Astaire said it's cancer.
How can I waltz alone I want to know?
The music here is like the sweetest rain,
But it won't be heaven til you dance with me again.

This one goes out to all of you people walking the protest lines. As you "occupy" whatever it is, remember those who came before you and protested with a good reason.

If I were a carpenter and you were my lady
I'd build you two chairs and a table.
We would have a nice place to sit
and enjoy a fine meal together.
If I could save time in a bottle
we'd have something to drink.

Turn and face me face to face
It's only me standing here.
Did you expect someone else?
All I can be for you is who I am.
And all I have to fight to keep you
Is only what I have been for you.
It is all I can do.
I do it for you.

I'm stepping into something and it's warm a wet.
It's oooey and it's gooey, but that's what I get
I'm stepping into something and it feels so right.
It keeps me safe and warm at night.
I'm stepping into something that fits like a glove
I'm stepping into something and I think it's love.

"Haile Selassie Meets Sylvia Plath"
One life
to live
One love
to give
Look at me
Who gives a sh*t?
One life
to take
One love
to break
Look away now
As I bleed myself out
Emancipation come set me free
For thee I plant a seed
and when it’s grown
all this emotion will plateau

Why oh why do I get high?
Can I blame it on my gambling dad?
Or that one bad teacher that I had?
Or the time I was dumped before the dance?
Or when I missed the shot that was our last chance?
Why oh why do I get high?
Is it because I got arrested that one time?
Or when I spent my last dime?
Or lost that bet on the big game?
Or sucked onstage, to my shame?
Why oh why do I get high?
I think it's time I told you why
I spark it up and smile real wide
Almost every day and most of the nights
Through good times and bad and happiness and fright.
Why oh why do I get high?
Through think and thin and truth and lie?
Because I like my open mind
To reflect on what is and maybe to find
What isn't known but is hidden inside
Waiting to be born and no more to hide.
Truth be told
I'm a slacker at heart.
I gave up the rat-race
Before I could start.
