The government wants to dictate our way of thinking and behaviour through various means (the education system, corporate media, etc.) I think they dictate what messages and theories are children are exposed to so that mainstream citizens won't question or challenge the status quo but rather live in a passive stupor of conformity and submissiveness.

The government mandates standards that must be met (a different, complicated, and contentious topic in and of itself), but does not limit learning to those standards.

They dont, you can teach your kids anything you want them to learn, but theres just limited time to teach them in school. Just because they dont learn it in school dosnt mean they cant learn whatever it is you want them to learn.

My view is that we have lost the original meaning of education - to draw out - and replaced it with "to stuff stuff in". Education has become the means to employment rather than the making of a better world.

That is not the main reason for our kids supposed limited learning though. Teachers are teaching to the "No Child Left Behind" program, which in NC, is interpreted as teach to the testing that will be given so funds continue, evaluations of the school and teachers are better.
Of course, there is also the belief that the sheeple need to be easily controllable and that starts early too.

I don't think the government necessarily puts limitations on what our kids learn, but the seem to put limitations on what they are taught.
