I have lucid dreams almost every night, and having one is an amazing experience.
I've always had really intricate and realistic dreams. One night I realized I was dreaming and everything sort of became more vivid, and I had complete control and was even able to fly. A couple weeks late I had another one and I thought I was the only one who could do this because no one really believed me, and then I couldn't do it for months. Then one night I had lucid dream in which I decided to try walking through a wall, and other the other side was a strange room and in the next room l I ran into Anthony Hopkins who was dressed like an old timey doctor, and he told me the secret to lucid dreaming. Although I immediately couldn't recall what he said at all, I was able to control my dreams for months. Then for awhile I wasn't able to out of nowhere, until I finally looked into it online and learned some techniques and read other people's experiences.
Now when I realize I am dreaming I always walk through the nearest wall, and on the other side its often either this same beach on an ocean that doesn't really exist, or some large confusing half-abandoned building (almost like the one I originally saw Dr. Anthony Hopkins in). Sometimes it is places I haven't been in awhile, or different new places altogether.
Strangely, there is sometimes things that try to pull me back into going back into a normal dream. It is usually a friend of mine acting like everything is normal and trying to tell me its not a dream or something. Last week it was Abed from Community trying to convince me it wasn't a dream, and for some reason I believed him.
It's really great, but I have tried and tried and haven't been able to fly since the first time lucid dreaming.
One night after a lot of failed attempts I was able to stretch my arm really far like Micheal Jordan in Space Jam, but I haven't been able to recreate that since either. I usually just walk through a lot of walls and see where it takes me. Either that, or I have some sex.

I have lucid dreams on a regular basis. I usually just keep repeating the same "scene" over and over until I get the best result. I also wake myself up from them when they either turn bad or involve say... My ex-boyfriend :/ When I force myself to wake up though, it's really shocking. My heart will be pounding and I'll feel like I just got the wind knocked out of me.

I learned something interesting earlier today. I was watching an episode of "Through the Wormhole" on science channel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAQpOHBrZeU That's the full episode, the part that I'm talking about is from about 18:45 in to 21:45.

I think this explains why when we dream, even lucidly, the way we deal with situations may differ than real life and why sometimes in dreams it may take us longer to connect the dots... because the brain litterally connects the dots differantly when asleep than it does when awake.

yes, i have had a lucid dream. I was surprised at first, at decided to test the limits of the dream. It was odd, since I only had control over my body, not the rest of the dream. after a minute or two, i lost the lucidity. It's only ever happened in dreams, and typically only ones that i am particularly enjoying. I don't have nightmares often.

There was one time in a dream when I was touring this amazing hill-side apartment. It was such an intricately designed living space and I was told that it belonged to me, which confused me. I thought "how could I possibly own something like this?" And that was when I realized that it was mine because I created it. Another time I decided that when I held this whistle, I could float -- but only a story-or-so high. So, I spent my dream floating around the balcony space of my church from childhood, like some kind of Lucid Lazy River.

I've had a couple. They're really fun. There's certain techniques you can use, such as taking certain drugs, that'll help you have regular and vivid lucid dreams.
