This question, in my opinion comes down to personal life choices, or the choices you allow others to make for you. A detour is also defined personally, one mans detour is another mans normal route.

I try not to rely too much on my plans. I don't let myself feel thwarted by things changing, I just try to get better at changing. I also believe that plans only appear to keep us safe, they actually keep us stuck. Detours can give us new views, if we don't let them scare us.

I think detours are important. Think of what you could miss if you go straight, eyes forward, directly to your destination. I never want to be that person.

Wonder how many people ACTUALLY pray for God's will in their lives as to their life's direction...2 or 3 words rote spoken isn't prayer. Wanna make God laugh? Tell him your plans.

Detours are merely alternate roads to your final destination. Detours can be adventures and they can be more fun and interesting than what you might think is the direct route to your destination. The fun comes with what happens along the way when you don't plan. So take the detour and enjoy it!
