I lived in Israel for about four years and came to love it. I love the people, the history, the food, etc. Israel was good to me, and were it not for her existence my own Faith would probably be persecuted there as it is in other middle eastern countries. Having said that, I also love peace and believe that regardless of how much one side has been hurt, peace should never leave the table. Peace should always be the goal. I believe the "us and them" perspective has got to go! I understand the importance of an Israeli state that can guarantee the protection of the Jewish people, and I believe Israel must exist. I think, though, that protecting the state of Israel must require a stronger concern for the state of the palestinian people. If their state is diminished and their hearts torn they will have less to live for and will have reason to oppose those who they deem the aggressors. Israel must consider their state and work for their well being. Israel must also make it clear that real and lasting peace is the greatest desire of the Israeli people. There should be no debate, as there currently is, whether or not a Palestinian state should exists. It must be known that it must exists. Anything that greatly enhances the negative sentiment such as settlements have got to go. And the Palestinian people cannot be held liable for the actions of a few. Though it may not seem just to avoid retaliating against an attack, that could be a more wise response, because it is also unjust to root out terrorist and kill hundreds of civilians in the process. Both sides have been pained, and both have suffered. Each side though comes up with logical arguments to explain why the other hit them first and why they are justified to respond. But each time they respond, and the more they use force to eliminate the enemy, the more new enemies arise. Neither side trusts that the other is serious about peace. And both sides have arguments to prove their point. Your argument isn't worth much to the person who you have harmed. While one describes his own pain he doesn't hear the cries of the other who has also felt pain. I think it's time each side begin to hear how the other feels. And its time both sides start looking at each other as people of the same human family. Tribalism is outdated and should not be dictating the course of any nation.... I think Israel has great arguments, and is right in it's condemnation of terrorist activities. Blowing innocent people up on purpose is awful, and the ideology of terrorists is a perverted and warped pile of crap, but let's not push more people into that frame of mind. Give them HOPE! Do what you can do to not be seen as the aggressor. And don't give up believing in peace. Israel has the upper hand, and that's why i believe Israel has the responsibility to guide the course.

I think that Israel is God's chosen land. As sons and daughters of God, we are to always protect Israel, and be an advocate for Israel no matter what.
