If you believe you've realized your potential, you die. That's the problem with rock bands that "make it" and then never record another significant piece of music. You must always strive for excellence and realize you are always better than the last thing you produced.

Look at the world around you as if its a dream and look for symbols and signs to interpret and read. Look at everything as if it's been put before you for you alone to witness and understand it's hidden meaning that you alone can interpret.

With childlike imagination, create an imaginal muse who has a greater purpose than any of your earthly troubles can get in the way of. They need to create through you to fulfill this greater purpose. Ask them what their name is, . . . talk to them and pick out a form and gender that is easy for you to visualize, address and connect with. Decide what kind of relationship will be most effective (friend, god, lover, mother, father, brother, sister, teacher, servant, or whatever). Talk to them and ask them for what you need. Ask them for inspiration. Talk to them and make an effort to hear them.

I think that when you get to a point where you do not know where to turn, you need to take a moment or a day doing something that makes you feel alive. It's something that makes you feel connected not only with yourself and your soul but with the world. If you want a personal example I reached a similar point and one day I decided that I needed to get out of my element and walk. I probably walked 10 miles all around my town and then I got to my spot in the park and I sat by the lake and stared at it and just thought about life. I saw children playing on swings with their parents, geese floating in the water, and men fishing. All of these things meant something to me because they were symbolic -

the geese represented how I should approach my life in a relaxed manner because things will fall into place eventually and when it does and I have that cherished ability or thing it becomes mine and only mine and if anyone dares to take it away from me you're damn straight I'm going to extend my neck and hiss at you if you say otherwise. haha.
the children represented how I should have fun with life and not be uptight and believe that I can do it all. Children are the most free spirited and egotistical people in the world, they think they can do anything - so I embrace that or I do find that inner ego filled child inside of me.
the man with the fish represented tenacity and the desire to move my a*s and reach my potential or atleast find the inspiration to find that potential. He also taught me patience. Sometimes blocks can take a while to get out of and you just have to be patient.
You can take what you can from my experience. I think you need to find that thing that makes you feel alive and run with it. You'll find your inspiration.

And realizing your potential...I've come to a place where i'm paying more attention to how people react and respond to the things that I do. That feedback is what I use to realize my strengths and try to expound on them. I believe that is the point when you're on the path to realizing your true potential.

I think you have to be in tune and be open to all sources of inspiration. You can really find inspiration in the smallest of things. That all comes with being open, aware and accepting of all things. I heard a quote from one of the greatest Hip Hop artists of all time, Rakim, he said he doesn't believe in writer's block, "When I feel I'm getting slow on the ink, I go back into the world and live...then it comes to a point where I'm no longer rhyming, I'm thinking. So when I get back to writing I have more life to put down on paper".

I'm sure it takes some time to get to that level of connectedness with yourself, but it can happen.

I paint and I get frustrated all the time, especially when I can't perfect a painting or chose the right colors. Just don't worry about it- it will fix itself. My remedy is to get a good nights sleep, and during a boring or not busy day, just let your mind drift. Day dream- set some goals. Hope you realize your potential- I'm sure it's brilliant!:D

Irish painter Guggi stated in a video by bigthink that creative blocks can be avoided with other activities related to your art. For me, I like to work on other things related to my projects. It keeps me focused on the project as a whole. For painters, there is always something to clean, paint to mix, other works to study. I get stuck on some music compositions, so when that happens I work on my social networking for my project, or read a book that can inspire a theme, or I walk around listening to sounds or conversations. The important thing is to always focus on your project as a whole and every detail that goes with it. That way you are always practicing something related to your art. Inspiration comes from so much around you.

I mess around with a few different wrestling techniques e.g. asking myself "The Five Whys" e.g. Why am I stuck? Because I'm lazy. Why am I lazy? Because I don't feel energetic! Why don't I feel energetic? Because I spend a lot of time judging myself? Why do I do that? Because I suspect I may not be good enough? OK! There's a limiting core belief! Now I'd try working at questioning the logic of my limiting thought- Is it 100% true? Can I give an example of it NOT being true? How might I feel if I didn't let myself believe it was true? If I focus on the problem I seem to go in circles. Also I ask someone I love who loves me to give me a few atta girls!

I like to think of overclocking my computer as a metaphor for realizing my potential.
First I'll explain what overclocking a computer is like: I bought my first computer with pre-assembled components from Gateway. I realized after a little while what I like to do most with my computer. I like to play games. But, my computer wasn't the best for gaming. So, I bought a new graphics card. It was better, but it still wasn't the best. Once I had enough money, I replaced some other components.
The processor, the RAM, the hard drive, the power supply, another graphics card, and even a new case. I bought all of these new components, and it still couldn't run the games how I wanted it to. What the hell!? After all of this is when I looked into overclocking. I could get my computer to run faster, at the expense of creating more heat.
I couldn't let it get too hot, though, otherwise it would be damaged forever. My processor came with a clock of 2.8GHz (GHz is a measure of speed, or number of calculations over a given amount of time). First I pushed it to 2.9, then 3.0, then 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 Oops. The computer shutdown because it was getting to hot, to protect itself. I kept trying to get it to run stable at 4.0GHz (because other people could) but it kept shutting down. Sometimes the computer would freeze when I tried to boot it again. I let it sit and cool down and got it working again at the normal speed, 2.8GHz, and just did other things on my computer for a while.
Eventually, I decided to give it another go, except that this time, I stopped at 3.4GHz, and then it hit me. 3.4GHz is more than enough for what I need! I pushed my computer to a point where it would turn off and freeze every time without taking a step back and realizing that I was perfectly content with something not quite as good. I always had the mindset of, "If I can't use it at 4.0 GHz, I'm not going to." All I needed to do was give the computer a break, and actually use it for a while. I realized all of its other great capabilities but didn't like it because it wasn't good at one capability.
My point is, replace what you can, overclock what you can't, but never let yourself shutdown. If you reach that point, it's time to cool off for a while and give it another go later. A day, two days, a week, a month. A year? Be lazy for a while. Eat some junk food. Watch your favorite TV comedies and start laughing at them again. Realize what else you can do with what you have before it actually stops working.
I like to leave most of my posts with an appropriate quote.
Someone once asked the Dalai Lama what surprises him most. This was his response:
“Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.”

Typical frustrations are a usual occurrence in creative endeavour, we have all experienced it and will continue to do so. There are many ways to battle the demon, walking, talking, getting high, watching white fluffily clouds in the sky BUT to really delve deep and tap into that potential you speak of is a different beast altogether. It resides deep down in the basement and to access this you must first look into yourself and and asked what are you blocking? Why are you blocking it? What new disguise is this reoccuring demon wearing? Can you recognise it now? Draw it, paint it, write it, collage it, sculpt it whatever, wherever, whenever. I believe the more you try and draw these shadows the lighter they will become and the lighter they become the more illuminated your potential becomes. Potential is endless, you just gotta keep lighting it up.

Get out of your own way.
Plus NOBODY knows their potential. They know their capabilities.
The trick is to work on a schedule. I write at least one hour a day in the morning no matter what. I might not have an idea until :55 minutes of my writing hour, but the idea is waiting for me the next day. When I played guitar I ran scales, I'd learn a new song, or play a song I knew a different way (Samba Ramones for example).

I can only write well when I'm inspired, when I force it, its like trying to drive a car with no gas. You just have to wait for inspiration, and waiting for inspiration can happen faster when you're doing the things you love, or the things you haven't tried yet. Walking down main street is always a good cure

The important thing with blocks - when writing or painting is to not fret about it. Not easy? Yes, I know, however, when you get stressed and frustrated about a block you nail up the walls much tigher. The thing to do is take a short break~ it always returns. If you're a writer, begin a vocabulary list or go out in the pulic and observe people and their expressions or the way they show their mannerism, and jot them down. Before you know it, you'll discovered your block has opened and your creativity returns to higher places.

I think one issue that is that I'm almost afraid of my art... in that in stereo-typical fashion, in the past, it's always been about drudging up my "inner demons" so I'm in conflict about what my true motivation is for doing art. I ask myself why can't I just live more on the surface and make art that I know someone will enjoy hanging on their wall. I know I will feel rewarded if someone shows an interest in what I do but I never get around to doing it because I don't know what direction to go in with my art that will make me happy. lol i'm a mess

There could be things you have not thought of or done that you would be excellent in .
I think it was the actor John Houseman , the star of Paper Chase...who had some kind of a carrier and tried theater acting late in life...the rest is film history .
Regarding a creative block , I've read that Hemingway used to sit every morning all morning looking at a blank page of paper in his typewriter . That was his discipline it seems .
If he wrote something..fine....if not..fine .
He's take off in the afternoon on some outrageous adventure or out drinking at his favorite haunts .
You could try ..." When in worry ,when in doubt , run in circles , scream and shout . "
Also , in overcoming a block , it's like my dentist said when I asked him what was the best toothpaste..he said , the one you use .
I heard that Newton came up with the law of gravity while sitting under an apple tree when an apple fell down..and I heard that he used to keep a rotting apple in his desk when working the smell of which inspired him .
