How many here think they will be able to understand enough of Hawking's argument in his own terms to evaluate it? How many in the world will be able to do so? If no one can, is it science?

What percentage of the assertions he makes to build his theory will the average purchaser of his book have to just take his word for? Should we kneel when the cashier bestows a copy on us?
Was there a time when the universe was not coming into being? A time out of time. Was there a place out of place. Was the potential always 'there'? What started it moving? I'm betting that if there are people smart enough to take him on, at least somewhat, that his dog won't hunt. Maybe he is using the corrupted, vernacular model of theory.

The concept of god is like Xanax, take one dose daily to keep anxiety away. We all search for meaning, some through a god. Whatever gets you through the night & Hawking is just trying to sell books.

I think y'all are forgetting the fact that I don't believe in God. I do believe in science. I believe however that they can both display truth and that that truth is/can be fallible.

Worry not, everyone. Science and religion do agree. We poor humans just have not caught up to that truth quite yet. That is what the present Age is all about. Not too long from now, we will have unity and peace, and these arguments will become fruitful consultations. Actually, this page contains quite a bit of good consultation. Thanks everyone!

I am not one to question his science. However the world came into being already happened. Im just going to stay focused on how my own little universe functions now. Its big enough for me.

I guess it's easy to mock faith and make it sound stupid. I believe in a Higher Power. The details--who made what? I couldn't care less.

This comment on the article is hilarious:
"I don’t believe in science…I believe in God. Science can’t heal cancer – God can. Sciene can’t heal a marriage – God can. Science can’t make a broken criminal whole again – God can. I used to believe in science, but science has let us down for many millenia. How many times has science said, “oh well, we were wrong…this is how it really is…Oh actually, our calculations were off by seventy-five million microns so the implications are as varied as the universer…yada yada yada…science sure does like to poke its nose in religion, but the contrary is not so. If you scientist really want God out of your labs, then stop talking about Him like you know Him. I’m just saying…"

Gravity created the universe? Well, gravity is a heavy subject, worth circling around a few times.

What's the fun in taking potshots at neoncons all the time? They are too easy of a target and you'll never change their minds.

The least scientific thing he's ever said.

One could talk about the nature of physics being the nature of God. Physics is, after all a theory. It's not a truth - it's a way of looking at the world, a world view. So is religion.
