I tend to think that most things which we would consider "great" are, in fact, other names for love. For example, I would call the creative process an act of love. Kindness is love. Intellectual connections can be love. Any time you're caught up in the sheer wonder of life, you are experiencing a kind of love. So yes, I would say that love is the greatest thing in the world.

I heard something at a wedding shower once. A woman's advice to the bride-to-be was, "You're not always going to love him. You're going to fall in and out of love throughout your lives together. As long as you always fall back in love, that's what will keep you together."

I like that idea. I think love is the greatest thing. Love is the impetus for passion, discipline, communication, building relationships of all kinds, confidence and humility. It's what makes being happy happier and what makes saddness even sadder. Love is the investment of caring.

Love could be a thing... but I think more accurately, it's a projection/expression of 'that which inspires life.' Which is a very important (non)thing, indeed.

i think there are better "things" in the world. you can have a thing, you an decide when to take a thing out, when to put it away, who to show it to, who to hide it from... i wouldn't call love a thing, it's just... love. it's just there sometimes, and yea it's absolutely amazing when it is. but imo there are greater "things", like laptops, air conditioners, microwaves, N64's, chocolate covered pretzels, etc. you know what i mean?

the more I have come to an understanding of the oneness of all things, the less I see love as the greatest thing... once you have accepted everything as the wholeness of the true self, the idea of love changes. What I did find as the greatest of all things... the goal behind all goals... is peace of mind... which is not only freedom from want need and desire, but also free of boredom... a very fleeting and elusive goal to be sure.

Well, heartbreak and death of a loved one are two of the worst things in the world, and since they are both created by love, wouldn't that in turn make love one of the greatest things in the world?

Yes, but not just romantic love. Love comes in so many amazing shapes and sizes and colors [it should be noted that my thoughts have gone in a distinctly gutter-bound direction at this point, but I will try to keep going]. Loving others is the greatest thing in the world. Being loved by others is the greatest thing in the world. Loving yourself is the greatest thing in the world. Your partner's love, your mother's love, even your cat's love...all of it is amazing and trouble-making in equal parts.

Love is the greatest thing in the world. In my life, (as short as it has been so far) I've managed to equate love to creation. The only thing I can compare the love I have for my writing and art to is the love I have for God. I write because I love to. I love to create. I create my characters and my work because I love it. The only other being I can imagine loving more is probably my future children, who I will create out of the love I know I will have for them. I give everything to my creation--I think all the bounties and virtues come out of this love we have for what is ours and what we have made.

trying to define the greatest thing in the world is like trying to explain the universe, it can't be done. I don't think we have a clue what the greatest thing in the world could possibly be and love is just one tiny fraction of the whole of whatever that would be.

Is Love the Greatest Thing is the World?
Yes.
But, in my experience, it's hard for someone to believe that unless they themselves feel liked they are truly loved.
