I don't think its a safe enough sport, (IMO) but who am I to say I know little about the joy it brings those who enjoy the sport...

Only thing that makes me more ill than watching the panic, fear and rage - not to mention the blood - of the abused bull, is the eager, wide-eyed, participatory gleam from the infantile audience. These types of bloodsports are an abomination. I say herd up the people who like this sort of thing into the ring and send `em out there to die --- at the horns of a bunch of bulls. They could have a audience wide lottery to pick the sacrificial lambs. They want to see blood and fear? Well then, spill their own.

I personally don't care for bull fighting. but it is culturally based. closely related to "bull jumping" . (as a matter of fact, I think its was started by some Romans)

Bullfighting traces its roots to prehistoric bull worship and sacrifice. The killing of the sacred bull (tauroctony) is the essential central iconic act of Mithras, which was commemorated in the mithraeum wherever Roman soldiers were stationed. The oldest representation of what seems to be a man facing a bull is on the celtiberian tombstone from Clunia and the cave painting "El toro de hachos", both found in Spain.

If it was up to me, I'd ban it. Seems extremely sadistic. Then again.. it's not my culture.

the proper Spanish bullfights are always finished with the death of the bull - some French and Mexican offshoots try and save the bull to fight another day - this creates wise bulls that don't chase the cape and are very dangerous.
