"It is known that during the period when Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, existed, young girls were married at an early age and that age difference was not important in marriage . Especially in regards to young girls, it should not be forgotten that there was social pressure for this, that they matured earlier due to climatic and geographical conditions and that they were seen as goods that needed to grow in their husband's house. Moreover, this is not a matter just related to girls; boys were also married at ages 8, 9 and 10 and they became the head of a family at an age that is perceived as very young today. Perhaps it is this culture that lies at the basis of this issue's not having been questioned until recent times."

...i think you're taking it out of context. they can marry them, but if they abuse them, it is frowned upon (officially).

Let's see, a person with extremist views on one side propagandizes and over exemplifies a culturally disturbing phenomena of the perceived enemy. Why? He wishes to make them your enemy as well. Much in the same way that certain locales here in the U.S. have long been rumored to practice incest, beastiality and such, once again the whole of a society has to defend itself from the actions of a vast minority of it's members. Outstanding.

I personally love how the author just has to let everyone know that he holds a Ph.D from the highly ordained school of douchebaggery. It really does lend to his credibility.

Child marriage, according to UNICEF, is not unique to Islam. and while this event is "wrong" , it is most probably illegal as well. The media makes a pretty big deal out of it with the assumption that this is a "usual" practice among Islamic. . propaganda
The awareness of early forced marriage and sexual abuse of young girls in the United States was increased by the April 2008 rescue of numerous children living on a ranch owned by a polygamist sect in Texas.

I think we need to be cautious in trying to judge other cultures, other belief systems by our standards. We rarely have all the pieces to the puzzle that would render a fair verdict.

We also need to be cautious that there is a lot of anti-Islam sentiment out there right now . . . and even reports on 'actualities' can be super-charged with the desire to breed judgement, demonization, distrust of anything coming from a different cultural or belief perspective.
I think the test of any belief-system, any paradigm, any person is in their fruit -- what they bear regularly, year after year, without effort, in abundance. And that takes getting to know them personally and not just 'by report'.

I can't believe this sort of stuff is happening in the name of Islam, a religion which gave women rights and equality when they didn't have any. I'm absolutely shocked! Please don't judge Islam by what you see these Muslims do. To suggest that girls that young could be forced into marriage like that is just disgusting! It's really upsetting to see stuff like this document out there spewing lies about Islam and the Holy prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
