Are classy people an endangered species?

Whatever happened to class + character? Integrity? Do the right thing? Those kinds of qualities seem to become very rare and that is a shame imo. I was always looking at politicians (Bill Clinton et al), sports celebrities (Tiger Woods, OJ, and many more), business men (hello, Bernie Ebbers) - all high profile people. And now a friend + business partner sank to the same low. Disses me without explanation after one great day of fun and plans. I'm lost, not even getting the benefit of a reply to my email/voicemail. Am I a Dinosaur?

We live in a society which generally does not reward it.

Interesting comments. I'm learning as I'm going. And I'm agreeing with the observation about young people. Or is that a California thing? Is mybe the entire question a California thing? Are things different in the Midwest? Or on the East Coast?

Classy people drink a good glass of scotch, have apartments that smell of rich mahogany, and have many leather bound books.

Ofcourse, the OP included integrity and character as part of his definition of class, so to you, Mr. OP, I say yes. We are an endangered species.

At least we have some high-profile classy people (using your definition) such as the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and other people of similar good repute.

Although I find the term 'classy' more than a bit vague, it does, I assume, refer to an ideal and I wonder if any fit an ideal perfectly. Depending on your definition, some fairly monstrous people have been 'classy'. When Oskar Schindler threw parties and gave gifts to the n***s(before he began saving people) was he being classy? If business activities are to be excluded from consideration of 'classiness', is being classy more than a trivial consideration? I presume women would prefer equal wages to having car doors opened for them.

Yes, classy people are a VERY endangered species. I think this exact thought everyday. Hopefully, we can influence others in the best way possible by still being/acting classy.
However, while this may seem a bit nerdy, if you look back on British Literature such as Canterbury Tales or any of Henry VII's scandals it causes one to believe classy people were always endangered. Just a little food for thought.
