I live in a pretty non-diverse community, but there are some people who stand out. How hard would it be for TV makers to throw in peripheral diversity, just like in my world? I'm starting to notice more of it on TV, like an occasional little person, dude in a wheelchair, or whatnot. But yes, actual diverse characters with lines would be great on TV!

Why does fear draw in more than understanding. Because humans are obsessed with it. Fear is the reson we have religion in the first place. I've always found it perplexing that we say we practise religion out of love but the result is always one based in fear. As Maynard Keenan wrote "There's no love in fear."

I'm not so sure that Americans don't like TV programs that cast Muslims in a positive light. I live in North America and personally believe that ALL religions are divisive and create the illusion of duality so I'm definitely not coming at you with bias. I honestly could care less about the religion of the characters. I watch the shows I watch for plot development and acting skills.

A friend of mine, whose father fought in Iraq, insists that the true religion of Islam requires that Muslims hate infidels. I personally don't agree, and what little I have read of the Qur'an does not support this. However, if this information is what people involved with the war in Iraq and the general war on terror are bringing back to the States, I'm not surprised that such a television show would do poorly, since I'm sure the majority of Americans at least know someone who served in Iraq.

People want characters they identify with. The majority (or plurality, I don't know the statistics) of Americans are white, therefore, they want white characters. There aren't many shows featuring Asians, Indians, Native Americans, or all kinds of other groups. I don't like it, but they're just looking for the broadest appeal.

Most Americans have the misconception that Muslims are mostly terrorists. Thank the media again for that. I have friends who are Muslim. I asked them questions about their religion and came to understand that they believe in the same God that I do. I wish that everyone would try to get the facts about a religion before condemning it. I also wish for world peace. I'll keep wishing.
