Honesty, self-awareness, love: If everyone was honest with himself/herself - and thus everyone else from a place of love - we could literally all work together to create/achieve anything we set our hearts to.

i visited a village outside Jin Chang city, Gansu Province China. It way out in the boondocks. an agricultural community. the villagers seem to know each other and they r close knit except for one or two individuals who have had some issues with the wider community. they seem to live in a friendly, amicable manner with almost everyone knowing each other and besides their private lives they seem to have a communal life where issues and matters are handled for example sharing of underground water, efforts to stop the desert from encroaching into their farmlands. of course, there r issues which continue to bug them and its all not on a silver platter.

this is a basic political social unit of a community. i think its the people within the smallest unit that should learn to govern themselves, ie, choose among the best of them to lead the community in their affairs and in their interactions with the other communities.
likewise with the other communities - they choose the best among them to govern. if we can project this onto our modern city life, perhaps we would be able to emulate this unit. of course, our modern life is much more complex and the population within the smallest political and social unit with its diversity may make such copying impossible. whats the harm of trying?
our present system of political parties, election rallies is not giving us what we really need - HAPPINESS.
with our modern society's wealth, ingenuity and creativity we couldnt come up with a better-than-the-2-political- party system? if we look at those representing us in congress/senate - r they really representing the populace or themselves and their own collective interests? or have their interests become the community's interest and hence we cant do much but listen to them and or let them do what they like?
anyways, its still a long way to revamp our system of governance....

That's easy; The Golden Rule. Not only do unto others as you would have them do unto you, but also only act in a way you would have everyone else act at all times. This is applied morals. For example, if you didn't want everyone to litter, then you wouldn't litter yourself, ever. Now that's pretty hard to do, but if you also picked up trash whenever you could, and everyone else did, then there wouldn't be much. For this rule to work no one can be excluded.

The one problem is sometimes it's hard to tell what's an appropriate rule for everyone so you really have to think about it. Like you couldn't say "I will never kill another person." While that isn't a bad rule, sometimes you need to kill a person out of self defense, so you need to add more to the rule. "I will never kill another person, except in self defense." And there's another problem, using exceptions to bend the rules. "I will never kill another person, except in self defense or if I don't like them." Not does that bend the rule, but break it as well.
Of course that example was easy to identify, but there are many more situations that may be unclear, so it's best to go with your gut and remember to think, what if everyone else acted this way.

That is incredibly easy. Rule 1 treat everyone you meet better than you treat your friends. Show others the respect they are due, while holding on to your own humility. Being nice to one another solves all the problems in the world. No amount of money or things are greater than love and justice

I also agree with MrTennis. Term limits for all politicians but, I'd also include Supreme Court judges in that.

Govern the way you would want to be governed, and use the new technologies to make democracy a reality instead of a moot point. Make people more important than profits and the profits will come naturally, and corporations are NOT persons and should NOT have human rights.

What the world has needed for some time is to be welded together, instead of all tribes and nations going their own way. The United NAtions is like a baby body, that has need of learning how to crawl before it can run. World unity has to come,
