Has anyone ever seen the Truman show with Jim Carey? I think that movie is pretty much the future of reality TV.

Competition is a good motivator to a point. Then it just gets sick in a misanthropic dog-eat-dog walk-over-your-opponent's-bones kind of way.

I find so-called "reality" shows to be about as far from the reality I try to live in that they are an anathema to me.
Back-room bargaining, secret deals, backstabbing, friends/allies turning on each other just to come out on top. It's a rather disgusting reflection of what too many wish to craft their "reality" as.
Yet many 'worship' it by granting them the ratings to keep it going, keep trying to do it one-better -- and things spiral downwards while we eat popcorn and watch.

Competition is not always the most productive form of interaction. Sometimes cooperation is much better.

Life is not just about winning and losing, either.

I think it really depends on the kind or show we are talking about. For Big Brother, Survivor and others like that really are nothing more then a game show, LA Ink on the other hand is not really a game show at all and is still considered reality TV.
